Martin Luther King Jr.’s family offered their response to President Trump’s decision to release the secret FBI files on the civil rights icon’s assassination nearly 60 years ago — a “deeply personal family loss” that they are still feeling today.
On Thursday, Trump signed an executive order to release the files connected to the deaths of King, President John F. Kennedy and his brother Sen. Robert F. Kennedy.
“For us, the assassination of our father is a deeply personal family loss that we have endured over the last 56 years. We hope to be provided the opportunity to review the files as a family prior to its public release,” the family said.
Trump said “everything will be revealed” while signing the executive order in the Oval Office.
The order called the release of the files “long overdue” and requires the Department of Justice and Office of the Director of National Intelligence to rapidly prepare for the release.

King’s family has continued to work toward a comprehensive investigation into the assassination, emphasizing the importance of uncovering the truth while also focusing on preserving the icon’s legacy, Fox Atlanta reported.

RFKJR wants it all released.
I think he has a lot more skin in this game than a pissy grandson.
Does JFK have veto power over the release of his dishonorable discharge from the military? (I’m talking’ the one who served in Vietnam).
Any POTUS wannabe should have them disclosed including BJ’s Perone disease.
He works hard at being a complete tool. Success!!!
I would have to agree RFK Jr does want to see it all. I do think the “MLK Legacy” has more to lose if salacious material comes out than the JFK/RFK revelations, if any.
Everyone has accepted the Kennedy family was into all kinds of things, but the Left has so much invested in the MLK legacy, and those kinds of things would be damaging to the reputation of a man whose legacy was largely given more weight because of the religious component of who he was.
Everyone, even the Left, gets to some degree the Kennedys were corrupt and womanizing. Heck, we saw it in their reflected adulation of BJ Clinton. They weren’t shy about that component there, even proposing it made him more like his idol, JFK.
Jack Schlossberg has an acute case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). If Trump were *not* opening the files, Schlossberg would be knocking him for that. To the TDS sufferer, whatever Trump does is, by definition, “wrong,” so the opposite must be right.
While it does sound reasonable and respectful, one must consider what might happen should the previously classified documents reveal an ugly truth or two. From what I’ve read over the years, there’s a more than a remote chance that they will. The release of any unflattering (or worse) information would be strenuously opposed, to put it mildly. The ensuing legal battles would not be healthy for our nation, again to put things mildly. The family (whomever they might be) has had decades to think about what might be in the files, and what their response (if any) should be. They have been advised the records will be made public; this is sufficient. If I were they, I’d want a preview, too. Completely understandable. But not providing that gracious opportunity is also likewise completely understandable.
Might be two different things.
BJ Clinton. They weren’t shy about that component there, even proposing it made him more like his idol, JFK.
Bill Clinton could never get the kind of women that JFK got. JFK had 10s, Clinton had 6s, at best.
How much will be redacted?
And the sexual shenanigans that were discovered.
Disclosure, even long after the fact, makes the recorded history that much more functional in being able to draw lessons from, and to make more future decisions sound in nature, and not simply ruled by emotions of some past time.
And much of what we “know” of these historic assassinations is rooted in the emotions and myths that have grown up in the absence of the real data.
Yeah...I think what may make it out was that MLK as a big fan of the white women.
“In other words, they don’t want information released that could be damaging, such as questionable connections that he might have had.”
Is the president releasing just the information on his death or all the info previously embargoed that caused Jackie Kennedy to say what she did about King?
At this point its long past being a political stunt. It’s best IMO on anything sensitive to have some time of 30 to 90 days to inform those who could be impacted by sensitive matters and then release the info. For heavens sake its been well over half a century.
Hahaha…so true. Clinton was a JFK wannabe!
that’s a good question. We might only know who killed him and nothing else.
“I knew Jack Kennedy, you sir, are no Jack Kennedy”.
Immature, drunk shitposting by a 32 year old. Typical democrat fratboy.
There might exist some audio transcripts of FBI recordings of MLK Jr, getting down in a hotel with some underage girls that the family would rather not have out there, tarnishing the fellow’s sterling image. From what I heard, third hand, things got pretty ‘jungle’.
All well and good if the subject is a conservative but not an icon and hero of the liberal pantheon. Regardless of his Republican party membership.
We do not want to give the family veto power over what is released.
They deserve the whole truth.
So do we.
