Leticia Jimenez expects to graduate from Cal State San Bernardino this spring with a degree in business administration.
She came to the country without authorization when she was 2 years old and grew up working the fields of the Coachella Valley with her parents when school was out.
She would be excited about the new opportunities her degree might present, but instead feels anxious every time she leaves the house. “I make sure that I say a good ‘goodbye’ to my parents,” she said. “I go out with more fear— anything can happen.”
Jimenez, 21, is like millions of undocumented immigrants living in California whose lives have become deeply woven into the state’s economy and social fabric — and who are rattled by the flurry of executive orders that President Trump has signed targeting immigrants.
When Jimenez does leave home, she said she always carries a red card detailing her rights under the U.S. Constitution — one in her wallet, one in her car and another in the back of her phone case.
“There’s a big chilling factor that’s going to emerge from this,” said Manuel Pastor, director of the Equity Research Institute at USC, who studies immigrants in the state. About 1 and 8 Californians are in the U.S. illegally or live with a family member who is. Most immigrants without legal status in the state, about 2.4 million people, have resided here for more than a decade, a factor that distinguishes California from other parts of the country.
A dramatic change in enforcement wouldn’t just affect undocumented people, Pastor said, but their family members who are “citizens or documented immigrant relatives.”
Those in California’s most immigrant-reliant industries — manufacturing, agriculture, hospitality, construction — are limiting their trips or staying home.

In this young lady’s particular case—she had no control over her movements when she was brought to the US at the age of two. She is in college and about to get a degree. She can be educated so that is a positive.
In these particular types of cases I would have Leticia be in the line for citizenship and pass the citizenship test, et al...
Now if Leticia were a gang banger—well perhaps that is not someone we need here in the US over someone in school or gainfully employed.
I would like a path for these particular (at one time children) brought over when minors to the US. A path that all can agree upon.
If it means she, (Leticia) needs to go back to Mexico, then so be it, but arm her with a ticket to the US Embassy so that she enters a quick line to citizenship. IF she is in school, then perhaps a type of timed deferment can be arranged.
I do not believe President Trump is without empathy to these people. They are victims of circumstances, but if they have conducted themselves in a proper manner and have or are attempting to better themselves and the country, then I do believe they need a path to American citizenship.
Those “Daca” people that have not contributed to America, or a burden on society. then they just have go...
I also believe that any and all people coming into the country have a sponsor and not be a burden upon society writ large—no welfare, etc. Emergency health care of course for true emergencies. (accidents, etc) Otherwise the sponsor is responsible for those bills.
We are not a callous country, but we need not be taken advantage of....But I do believe there needs to be a common sense path for these potential citizens to take to continue to bring their contribution to this country.
Those currently in line to become citizens need to have their applications expedited one way or another to wipe away this back log and eliminate the limbo many are finding themselves.
I think there needs to be a common sense discussion about this on MAGA terms, not democrat party terms.
Have you fully understood the economic and legal implications of each of the dozens of documents you signed with multiple provisions requiring your initials when you last visited a new medical professional? And those documents were likely in your native language.
How do you feel about a marketplace that routinely requires you provide the last four digits of your SS#?
They may come from a country with a corrupt government, which is keeping them from being prosperous...
With an out-of-control crime rate tucked under that corrupt government, what more is necessary to warrant the title "hell hole"?
The underlying central question may be: does our government and its taxpayers have the responsibility to resolve the internal hardships of a foreign nation?
They can take whatever path they care to, so long as it leads them south and they don't stop until they reach Mexico.

What a pant load.
She sees no problem with being in the country illegally. Stole a spot in a university from an American citizen. And, as a reward, got in-state tuition while an out of state American citizen pays much more.
She needs to go back and Make Mexico Great Again.
She was 2 years old and grew up working the fields of the Coachella Valley.
The Los Angeles Times always showcases a so called sob story when it’s about an illegal.
A happy story would be Record Amount Of Illegals Deported would help their ratings and sales.
Why not figure out how to become an American citizen or at least legally live here?
Why is this question never asked of them?
Leave it up to this RAG of a newspaper to find one person to show her problems.

Generational “Wealth” — which means you’ve owned it long enough for your new high falutin neighbors to price you out of continued existence if they can — means nada to developers. Absolutely NOTHING in that article should make any difference whatsoever to any loyal, patriotic American. GET ‘EM OUT OF HERE MR. PRESIDENT — EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM! Deporting this one but not that one is a recipe for a disastrous policy failure!
Once we get past this temporary hand-wringing phase, we can get back to really enforcing the laws and prevent this BS from ever happening again.

Well it all comes down to whether or not the President and the members of his regime can stand fast in the face of the Marxist-Democrats and their RINO sycophants, and the bitching and moaning of the radical Left. Those who presented to President Trump the mandate at the ballot box are now watching intently!
My question is how did this criminal manage to get into a college and most likely get financial aid to do so?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
I can answer that question: the people running the education systems in this country are indoctrinated Marxist-Democrats and their RINO sycophants, all of whom are anti-American globalists.
Good. Let her spend her last semester abroad.
We’re just following the law.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I never tire of reminding people that it is the FAILURE to follow the law that has destroyed many countries, and that has now brought America to the brink of destruction.
It will mostly depend on whether the nation has had an epiphany about how awful the rev comm Dems are and whether the nation will continue the restoration in 2026 and 2028.
and that is why California will never be Republican again, the Dems made sure to import as many illegals as possible to turn California into a one party rule
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
And since it worked so well there it became the modus operandi of the Marxist-Democrat cabal to dominate elections nationwide. The election just concluded however, revealed that for their game plan to work they need to keep that border wide open! That’s why they tried so hard to dispose of DJT, and they almost succeeded!
That doesn't make any sense. 1 AND 8? Shouldn't that be 1 IN 8? Otherwise they're saying 9 people are in California illegally. I'm sure the number is much higher.
