Well growing up, gas heat was much better than electric, the liberals of today are hell bent on electric.

Ceramic oven plus heated floor (electric).

Most comfortable house ever and pretty cheap as long as you can get the wood.

Nat Gas by far. electric is a very dry heat, and is at the mercy of windmills and solar farms.

Texas house has propane.
Louisiana house has a woodstove. Small fires in the woodstove or we have to open doors and windows to not bake.

In Brookline,Massachusetts...proud home of The Tank Commander,Mike Dukakis...they passed a regulation some time ago outlawing oil heat, gas heat, gas stoves and gas water heaters from new buildings and buildings undergoing major renovations. That leaves solar and electric. And of course it won't be long before Massachusetts mandates "smart meters" statewide.

So the Maoists will decide what temperature your house is...when you can cook...when you can take a shower or wash and dry your clothes.

In my experience gas heating is more dependable. Electric power goes down more frequently, especially during ice storms.

North of I-70, I think gas would generally be the best choice for about two decades.

It depends partially on your electric rates, now and in the future.

Electricity rates are subject to regulatory scams far more than natural gas.

As for New York State, a U-Haul is your best choice.

I’m out in rural MA. We have oil heat and electric appliances. At one point (long ago) I had a gas oven/stove in the city of Boston and I loved it. But I’ve cooked electric for decades now. It’s not ideal.

I have a gas heater in my home. The one thing that makes the home feel more comfortable is that I place warm humidifiers throughout the house. No more dry skin.

They I do things here is to put humidity in the air during the winter and then use my dehumidifier during the summer.

Thoughts -

Amen on the Uhaul! Oil is actually king. We have a small hvac biz and have heard other workers from the big boys buy into the “cold climate” heap pumps as primary/only source of heat. One winter later they were demanding to go back to oil boilers/steamers or gas furnaces.

Many kids in the 60s still had open flame gas stoves connected with a rubber hose that pushed onto the valve at the wall and onto a fitting on the heater, stoves in the kid's room that the kid himself could move around some and that required the kid to light with a match.

You can see how safe they might be in a 7 year olds room, with him lighting it and he and his friends playing around it, falling into it, loose clothes around it, the rubber gas hose pulling loose, etc.

We live in upstate NY. We have a bevy of vintage wood stoves but just purchased a brand new lopi on craigslist and it’s fantastic!

If you live north of US-50, home solar is not likely to be a good option without government robbing someone else.
