Jan. 6 committee members talk to White House about pardons

Breaking news: With President-elect Donald Trump set to take office in less than a week, members of the Jan. 6 Select Committee and White House are privately discussing whether to issue presidential pardons to lawmakers who served on the panel, according to lawmakers and sides.

In an interview, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), who chaired the Jan. 6 committee, said he spoke to the White House counsel’s office last month about the issue. Thompson noted that he hadn’t talked directly with President Joe Biden on the topic, but the veteran Mississippi Democrat said he’d accept a pardon if offered.

“I believe Donald Trump when he says he’s going to inflict retribution on this,” Thompson said on Monday night. “I believe when he says my name and Liz Cheney and the others. I believe him.” Thompson and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the panel’s vice chair, were recently awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by Biden.

As recently as last week, Biden said he’s considering preemptive pardons for high-profile Trump critics. However, the communication between the White House and some committee members on this topic hasn’t been previously reported. Members who served on the panel haven’t asked Biden for a pardon, though we’re told others have lobbied the White House to grant them.

I don’t think that is going to happen. I wish it would, but I doubt if it will. I would have seen the Clintons prosecuted. But I have given up on that. The System protects its own.

This may be a good thing. They can testify under oath and send all the associated bad actors to jail while being publicly shamed.

This should end any thoughts that the J6 hearing was anything but what it was, which was a partisan witchhunt.

Why do they need pardons?

What crimes are they confessing to?

If someone hung these traitors on a tree at the capitol, President Trump could pardon the hangman.

The left has opened Pandora’s box.

Don’t members of Congress have immunity for their official actions? Some staffers might be afraid, but the Congress members already have a free ride. Perhaps this is a red herring issue.

“....Thompson noted that he hadn't talked directly with President Joe Biden on the topic, but the veteran Mississippi Democrat said he'd accept a pardon if offered........”

Of Course Thompson didn't talk to slow demented Joe, not only would Joe have likely stared off into space thinking about ice cream, Slow Joe has no decision making capability in this current administration and hasn't for years. Others who were not elected are the ones who are making the “Biden Administration decisions.” If a pardon is granted, I hope that the Trump Administration tracks down and releases documents on who actually negotiated it and who recommended it being signed and if Biden actually was mentally capable of signing it or if it should be voided as it was not proceduraly issued.

There is no such thing as accepting a pardon.

“Don’t members of Congress have immunity for their official actions?”

I probably should whisper this—but their staffers have no immunity from anything.

They should serve long prison sentences for treason—regardless of what happens to their bosses.

“ Tell me, why would you need a pardon, unless you’ve committed a crime?”

Taking a pragmatic view, pardons aren’t the worst thing.

The FIGHT to determine guilt is over.

Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan was charged years ago with bribery, he fought and fought and slow walked the judicial process. His trial is still not over.

Trump may be a “convicted felon” but it is very likely that will be overturned well before he leaves office.

A pardon means you are guilty forever.

Whoa - didn’t think of it in those terms, but you’re right, Biden’s ‘pass’ doesn’t forgive crimes committed in real time ...

Yes, that’s gonna be fun. I’m guessing they’ll do a Comeny - and say they ‘don’t remember’ 400 times.
