To all my fellow Freepers who live in California,
Especially those in the Los Angeles area,
I'm monitoring the out-of-control fires that are raging in your area. My heart breaks for you all.
The scenes I am seeing look like a Biblical disaster. A small nuclear device would have done less damage. The entire LA area looks like it will be utterly destroyed.
I'm leaving out any discussion of fault, that is fodder for another thread. This thread is simply to wish you all well. Please remember, your life (and the life of those you love, including pets) is of paramount importance. Material goods, while important, are not as important as your safety.
As you can, please check in and let us know you are safe.
For those who have not yet understood how bad it is, please see this video, which is a shot someone took who was flying into LAX.
Heartbreaking. My prayers are with you all.
The people of California have been on my mind all day. My prayers go out for them as they navigate this most difficult time. Stuff is just….stuff. What’s important is being safe. I hope the people there have been able to get out in time.
Meh. I guess I'll do, until a good soul finally comes around. 😊
south of LA in Lake Elsinore area all is well. Winds 15ish mph my area.
greater LA winds expected to die down to low 10-20ish mph by evening but currently gusting multidirectional.
Fires continue to burn Pacific Coast Highway/Malibu including beachside
There are now 5 fires: Woodley, Hurst/Sylmar, Palisades, Lidea (eastern half), Eaton/AltaDena.
Western part of Santa Monica down to the beach now added to mandatory evacuation - active fire
156K SoCalEdison customers have had power cut/LAPWD also cutting electric to tens of thousands.
Firefighters are using 300gal tanker trucks in leiu of hydrans which LA Cty says are not designed for highflow sustained for hours flow. Some arial drops being tried but don’t seem effective on fully engulfed structures.
lighter side: a dozen chickens wrangled by KCal news crew from mansion in AltaDena, elsewhere, also rescued 1 billygoat.
Thanks much for checking on us!
Perfectly put.
“ You mentioned that it appeared the whole place is going up, but the reality is very different. We get wildfires every year, and while these unusually strong winds are indeed wreaking havoc, this too shall pass. The winds are forecasted to back off tomorrow.”
You’re absolutely right.
It’s horrible in the specific streets and blocks where they got burned out.
I say this being close enough to see the fire in the foothills last night from my driveway.
Thank you for checking in!
This is so devastating. Lives are turned upside down. So very sorry for your nephew...such terrible decisions and difficulties ahead.
One of my many sisters lives in Santa Rosa, Kalifornia. The recent fires there did not consume her home, thankfully. Some of the loooong term Santa Rosa residents remember the 1964 fires in the exact same Santa Rosa hills and valleys. Back in 1964, there were no human structures to burn.
Prayers up for all affected.
“ 2 family members have already lost their homes and well as multiple friends.”
Where are they? Which fire?
I’m near Eaton fire.
>>I suspect Getty Villa is not out of the woods yet.

All in Altadena.
Excellent news!
You mean like 81 million voted for Biden? Really?
Whether they really did or not, I have compassion for them during this disaster. Do you?
Prayers for your people!
thank you
and
prayers up
Thanks.
God is always in complete control. Without explaining here, I can say that through this He very well may be doing a work in mt nephew’s heart—it is needed.
Heading towards work in Glendale the 5 SB this morning was like descending into the gates of hell. Sky had the yellowish hue (reminded me of Hurricane weather, I’m originally from the East Coast) and there was a ton of black smoke but it was high and not hugging the ground. Very ominous and eerie looking. Didn’t smell the smoke until around noon today though.

Also sad to see that Foxs (a North Lake mainstay) burned down
I see. Hope you are right.
100,000 people are evacuated with the shirts on their backs, and possibly, the majority may wind up, losing their homes AND businesses.
Nice of you not to notice THIS magnitude or widespreadness.
Spit it out. What reasons aren’t we talking about on these threads?
These fires, when combined, will likely rise to being the worst fire event in not only California’s history, but the worst fire event combined, in the history of the United States.
I’m talking about the worst historically, in economic devastation. Loss of homes, businesses, incomes, infrastructure, houses of worship, civil services, schools, way of life, etc.
I think the media, has this one covered, just about right.
I’m warmly open for correction.
