To all my fellow Freepers who live in California,
Especially those in the Los Angeles area,
I'm monitoring the out-of-control fires that are raging in your area. My heart breaks for you all.
The scenes I am seeing look like a Biblical disaster. A small nuclear device would have done less damage. The entire LA area looks like it will be utterly destroyed.
I'm leaving out any discussion of fault, that is fodder for another thread. This thread is simply to wish you all well. Please remember, your life (and the life of those you love, including pets) is of paramount importance. Material goods, while important, are not as important as your safety.
As you can, please check in and let us know you are safe.
For those who have not yet understood how bad it is, please see this video, which is a shot someone took who was flying into LAX.
Heartbreaking. My prayers are with you all.
“My kids are in Simi”
Pretty nice place to live. We left there 15 years ago.
Please check in as soon as you are assured he is okay.
I’m by the 118/210
Here, here!
Thank you.
2 family members have already lost their homes and well as multiple friends. Waiting to see if my sister’s house will make it out safely.
Amen.
Amen!
Always remember the media makes things seem worse.
I’m talking about the magnitude or widespreadness.
The area of west Los Angeles got hit bad. Ok, we won’t say why.
And a swath of Pasadena has been hit.
Really bad for those neighborhoods. Horrible.
But it’s not like all of Los Angeles, city or county, is on fire.
It’s interesting that the fire near me is not much compared to smoke and smell of most years.
But sadly, this one started lower in the foothills or something and there were huge winds yesterday so embers leap frogged down to a neighborhood.
The wind was crazy and this happened to a number of neighborhoods.
But the sky is still blue in places, when normally in big fires in these foothills it’s all brown and the outside looks orange-yellow.
That hasn’t happened. But the affect on humans this fire has been bad in specific areas.
The Palisades in LA I think has been the worst, for reasons we’re not talking about on this thread.
True.
Thank you, but we’re okay. We live in the central valley over 200 miles from the fire in LA.
Hat Tip to you Laz...
I lived on the outskirts of Poway with Santa Ana’s winds blowing with temps soaring and then the Power is shut down.
The terror sets in when you smell the Fires burning 10 miles away.
It’s Maddening to say the Least.

May the Lord be Glorified by His
Saving Grace for All affected in
This Horrific Fire Storm.
I prayed for the Lord to calm those winds.
Okay, good. I don't know too much about California and it's geography.
Thanks for checking in.
Thanks for the Twitter video link from the plane, by the way.
I don’t worry about him.
His entire graduating class all were in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Your temperance and compassion are well noted here. I concur and my prayers are for all in the fire ravaged area.
“ The eastern San Fernando Valley here. Safe so far. Eaton Fire is about 12-15 miles away. Sure can smell it outside though.”
I’m a lot closer than that, due south, but it hasn’t smelled or been too smoky.
Wind is blowing the other way, I guess. The trail of the fire indicates that too. It’s moving west almost a little to the north west.
I know these fires well over decades. I thought today it’d be all brown sky and yellow hue everywhere, but it’s not. And the smell isn’t strong. It’s kind of weird.
Don’t scare me. That’s the only thing I’ve clung to in this debacle.
Well spoken Laz!
Love ya, Laz. You are a good soul.
