Mark Hamill was forced to flee his Malibu home as dangerous wildfires continue to spread through Southern California.

The “Star Wars” actor, 73, posted a statement on Instagram Tuesday night where he detailed his and his family’s “last-minute” evacuation.

“Personal Fire Update: 7pm- Evacuated Malibu so last-minute there (were) small fires on both sides of the road as we approached [Pacific Coast Highway],” Hamill wrote.

In terms of their rection to the fire, I like the quote from John Stewart Mill,

"So long as an opinion is strongly rooted in feelings it gains rather than loses in stability when it is subjected to strong factual arguments in opposition. For if it were accepted as a result of argument, the refutation of the argument might shake the solidarity of the conviction; but when it rests solely on feelings, the worse it fares in argumentative contest, the more persuaded it adherents are that their feelings must have some deeper ground, which the contrary arguments do not reach; and while the feeling remains, it is always throwing up fresh entrenchments of argument to repair any breach made in the old."

Insurance companies had pulled out from this area. Which means the rest of flyover country will not have to pay higher rates due to California’s lack of fire prevention.

I was stationed at Camp Pendleton for a couple of years and I know the Santa Anna winds are an annual occurrence, so there is no surprise except perhaps they may be blowing a little harder this time. The point is the Left thinks that leaving the environment to do its thing in its ‘natural’ state is so wonderful until all hell breaks out as it is now. Common sense, which the Libs don’t have, says that if they want to live in the aired desert, they need to manage/clean up the underbrush and maintain major fire breaks. These management measures are much cheaper in the long run and less chaotic than undergoing what is a living hell every five or ten years. No one can blame the insurance companies for bailing out on these crazies.

He voted for this when he voted Democrat.

Am I supposed to feel sorry for him?

I am nowhere near the financial situation as some of these people are and I’ve prepared for fire and tornadoes. If I lived there and had their kind of money, I’d build to resist fire and have backup if fire or security were not available.

***What’s for lunch?***

Extra crispy bacon, fried lettuce leaves, and fire-roasted tomatoes on burnt sourdough, aka BLTs (Malibu-style).

Thank you.

Never wish misfortune on anyone, lest it instead find you, or someone you love.

(In the case of criminals, wish for expedient justice, after the fair trial. That makes it OK.)

Southern California foothills (where many of these wealthy folks live) are prone to severe fires every now and then.

Mother nature is going to win the battle.

I suppose you could build an underground concrete fire-proof bunker and store valuables there—but barring that you are on your own.

Luke Skywalker is 73? John Belushi would have celebrated his 76th birthday later this month if he was still alive.

The term "Santa Ana" for the winds is apparently folk etymology. I read somewhere it was originally "santana" meaning "devil's breath," which makes sense since it is hot wind coming from the desert.

Makes sense. The night sky is always amazingly clear during the furnace winds.

Those of us from CA already know it doesn't have the usual 4 seasons: it's fire, flood, mud-slide & earthquake.

Thanks, Interesting observation how terms can morph overtime, but I thought the term came from the Santa Ana Canyon in Orange County, Ca. Whatever, it truly feels like the devil’s breath blowing on you - dry and hot. Your post prompted me to find this article - https://people.atmos.ucla.edu/fovell/LATimes_SantaAna.html

I guess Mark Hamill shouldn’t have been voting for the useless marxists all these years. Karma is a bitch.

You post a lot of stuff I disagree with.

But not this time. :^)

The Force isn’t with him this time.

The force was actually against him, it said in the article that he was "forced to flee."

George Lucas said that he based the rebels in Star Wars on The Viet Cong, so maybe it is appropriate that Hamill is a Marxist.
