The term “Santa Ana” for the winds is apparently folk etymology. I read somewhere it was originally “santana” meaning “devil’s breath,” which makes sense since it is hot wind coming from the desert.

Thanks, Interesting observation how terms can morph overtime, but I thought the term came from the Santa Ana Canyon in Orange County, Ca. Thanks for posting the link to that article. So the "santana" theory may be wrong too.

The article has one error: St. Anne's day is July 26, not July 25. July 25 is the feast of St. James.
