They equate any disagreement as being a ‘horrible person’, therefore, the ‘right’ thing to do is to cut that person out of their life. The short sightedness is beyond them, only a ‘horrible person’ would be so arrogant as to think there’s no valid opinions other than their own. They think they know conservatives because of what other leftists tell them what ‘conservatives believe’...even though they never hear that from conservatives. So when conservatives do speak, they’re not really listening, they’re filling in the blanks as to ‘what they really think’...without realizing they’re wrong.

Say you know someone hates America, they hide child molesters and thieves. They are atheist and model their life after Marx and Hitler. Nothing enrages them like a steak on the grill, a few hot dogs or a burger. They are more reverent about homosexuals than the local church. You know they would turn you in immediately for that reward if certain guns were banned.
Could -you- have a friendship with such a person?
For extra credit, review how they acted during the covid prison lockdowns, masking and shots. Were they understanding and tolerant? Or did they turn in neighbors, friends and coworkers for violations. Did they exclude you from gatherings?
I do not understand this desire to look beasts in the face and see a beauty.

Exactly. It's fine to have differences of opinion about what the best ways are to ensure personal freedom, self-determinism, and the opportunity to prosper by your own efforts. However, if you don't agree that those are immutable goals then it's hard to find common ground.
It's also difficult to remain friends with someone who votes against your well-being.

I’ve seen your posts today, you are really acting goofy on a number of threads as though you are high or just off.
It trivializes the magnitude of the dispute to call it “political differences” when one side wants to preserve the government as founded but the other side wants to abolish every precept that that government was founded on replace it with something completely alien to the founders’ concepts.
I was pondering this the other day. Politics is actually life views. It’s no separate. I can love someone despite their politics, but being close to the person and in constant contact must be difficult.
Thankfully, we are all on the same page. My son and DIL weren’t for awhile, but they’ve really come around - sometimes I feel like he’s more “right” than me lol.
OTOH, I’ve been quite surprised at how the same MAGA crowd which excoriates pro-abortion women has been remarkably tolerant of the pro-abortion soon-to-be First Lady. So I guess if you ignore your core principles, you can still admire someone who is the opposite.
Being friends with liberals became a lot more difficult in 2008, as most liberals became hard-core leftists.
I have some long-time friends from high school and college who I just won’t talk about politics to preserve the friendship. I only see them every few years, so not much of a burden.
But I don’t have any close friends who have significantly different politics.
I have a friend who is TDS+. Lee Greenwood makes his ears hurt.
We share a common interest and our friendship is based on that. We respect each others accomplishments.
He is a Vietnam vet so I’m not sure I can blame him for hating his country.
