US President Joe Biden directed that January 9 will be a national day of mourning throughout the United States for former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 100.

"I call on the American people to assemble on that day in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to the memory of President James Earl Carter," Biden said in a statement...

Carter stuck his nose into all kinds of foreign policy disputes after he was no longer president. He was one big PIA.

I remember him saying of his wife, “She’s a perfect extension of me.” When he first campaigned, she followed him around with a stenographer’s notebook, making notes about the difficulties people were experiencing. Jimmy would fix everything! His massive ego far exceeded his limited abilities. As president he was a walking disaster. I remember him embracing Breshnev in a bear hug.

He admitted he committed the sin of lusting after a woman in his heart. He wore his religion on his sleeve but had the coldest, meanest-looking blue eyes I’ve ever seen in a human being.

Then there was the killer rabbit; Jimmy scheduling the White House tennis courts; his obsessive jogging that led to a photo of Secret Service agents holding him up after he almost collapsed during a jog.

He was awful. Biden has topped him, though. Why is it that Democrats keep producing the most horrible, cringe-inducing presidents that make us laughing stocks all over the world? Bill Clinton was another international embarrassment.

Take time out of my day to drive my ass to church to pray for that guy?

I am not going to dance on his grave...but I am not going out of my way for him either. He did not move me THAT much. I guess I can be thankful that he was so bad at his job that we got RR for eight years.

Mourning?? Today is National BACON Day!!! It is even a better day knowing that SOB has finally kicked the bucket! He loved muslims, so perhaps they can say their phony prayers from him, but not me!

I will continue the celebration from yesterday where Scotch & Cigars were passed around!

We should be celebrating. That man was an absolute disaster for the world.

*HE CAUSED* all Middle Eastern/Islamic terrorism. That *IDIOT* helped to depose the Shah of Iran, and the religious nutjobs that took over started funding Islamic terrorism world wide.

The world would be a better place had Jimmy Carter never existed.

Tonight at dinner my daughter (27) was asking what was so bad about Carter. Extended family regaled her with stories of gas lines, flags at the gas stations showing if they had gas or not, odd-even gas days, 55 MPH maximum, interest rates of 18% and more for a house, etc. Iran hostages, etc.

You left out the worst of it. That imbecile *CAUSED* all world wide Islamic terrorism. By helping depose the Shah, he caused the religious nuts who took over to start pumping money into world wide Islamic terrorism.

Without Carter, there would be no Hezbollah, there would be no Hamas, there would be no Taliban, there would have been none of these terrorist organizations out there killing people.

The War between Iran and Iraq would not have happened. A million people were killed in that war, and it would not have happened had Carter never been president.

And yes, he gave away the Panama Canal, which is now biting us in the @$$. Everything that idiot did was wrong and detrimental to the US and to the world.

“...with stories of gas lines, flags at the gas stations showing if they had gas or not, odd-even gas days”

I was college at the time, I rode the Greyhound bus home for holidays and areound that small NC town where my college was located I rode a 10 speed.

“55 MPH maximum” before my sister totaled my 62 Chevy 6 banger Biscayne (which put me the 10 speed and the Greyhound) that ‘ol reliable handmedown purred at 55mph.

“interest rates of 18% and more for a house” I was decades away from that purchase and U/W in the electrical trades for most of it.

“Iran hostages” I have known several Persians over the decades and they’re fine people whose lives were completely ruined by those events in that region.

“After listening to it all she said Sounds like he helped elect Reagan - so that was good!” a very similar reoccurrence this last election cycle.

I voted Ford, the country was in a rough patch after Vietnam, we were a gold star family, I was numb from that experience, many cousins were in the conflict, it was all consuming. Thinking back... it really was a kind of hell we, as a family, were living through.

I heard an audio clip on the radio this morning of him saying, “... this energy shortage is permanent...”. So, he was either a propagandist, a moron, or both.

I was age 10 to 14 during his term and not politically aware, so I don’t remember many details from those days.

Good information. It conforms to what I have read over the years elsewhere.

Carter actively worked to get rid of the Shah, and this was one of the dumbest blunders in US History.

Does anyone recall Carter’s confrontation with a rabbit during a whitewater rafting event? The man was frightened silly by the small animal. The pics of him trying to get it out of his boat were hilarious, and were in all the papers.

Domestic issues such as the gas shortage, outrageous interest rates etc were part of the problem. The thing that sticks in my craw...and I was in my late 30’s at the time..was his sandbagging the Shah of Iran, a superb friend and ally of America. By undercutting him and ushering in the exiled islamic radicals, he DIRECTLY facilitated the current Iranian terrorist islamic regime. How much death and destruction did James E. Carter author by this treachery? The douche cited the Shah’s brutality toward his oppponents among other things. Well yeah...his opponents were the filth we’ve come to know as the likes of ISIS, moslem brotherhood, Taliban, Al Quada etc. The Shah’s Iran was very secular and westernized with women living as normal as they did in Europe. Carter ruined this. An Iranian woman who lived under the Shah called in to the Chris Plante show this morning and expressed her joy at Carter’s passing. Nuff said.

I am old enough to remember living through the days of Jimmy Carter’s presidency. On the 9th, I will lift a glass & toast the fact that he’s gone, wherever he may have ended up. Jimmy wanted FJB to do the eulogy which might prove ‘interesting’. I won’t be watching the state funeral, but Jill Biden might want to take notes since FJB is looking like the walking dead these days.

Good list. However, you omitted all his foreign policy disasters starting with the Shah of Iran.

Very true. That was the beginning of the end for Iran.
