We used to be able to put men on the Moon, and we can’t even have a decent autocorrect.

Most are works on epicurean philosophy, so, food shopping was probably high on the list of priorities, probably some recipes in there too.

Brighter as seen from Earth? Or brighter as seen from the sun’s surface?

10 BILLION? Sure. I quit reading when I read that.

They meant at night.

7:31 · -Reading inside of the Ein Gedi scroll was a major breakthrough.
7:36 · But the Herculaneum papyri are an even greater challenge.

An Herculean task..

This is quite long, but you get a whole lot more information here.

Long story short: they successfully recovered the text to the point that you can clearly see every line, but it’s not all readable (maybe 50%). The next phase in their award process is to try to reach 90% readability on four scrolls, and after that to try to make the process much more inexpensive so they can scale it up to all 300+ scrolls.

Here’s some info from the team. When you get to the bottom, it’s eye-opening. There could be vast amounts of scrolls still buried there. It has the potential to be another Library of Alexandria.

It’s only speculation that there’s another library in the villa.

I love the villa itself (the illustration anyway). Must have been a pain to dust. In fact, maybe the eruption just caused the surrounding areas to be abandoned and accumulating dust buried the whole thing... :^)
