Health insurance companies have started removing images of their leadership teams from their websites following the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The 50-year-old was murdered on Wednesday morning when a masked gunman unloaded several rounds outside of the Hilton Hotel in Midtown, Manhattan.
Thompson was named UnitedHealthcare CEO in 2021 and earned a reported $10 million a year, and for several years prior he ran the Medicare business within UnitedHealthcare.
His company took down his image and other executives' photos on Wednesday, while CVS Health removed pictures of all of their top executives on Thursday.
Robert D'Amico, founder of Sierra One Consulting who has previously worked for the FBI, said the removal showed they had been listening to security experts.
D'Amico said: 'These companies are hearing what experts like me have been saying about how easy it is to identify and then find their executives.'
Glen Kucera, president of Enhanced Protection Services at security firm Allied Universal, added: 'I think there's going to be a lot of executives that are going to say, "Hey, you know, this could happen to me and we should really consider our security protocol going forward."'
D’Amico said he expects corporate boards of directors to reassess their security plans for executives.
That would include asking for assessments on how big a security detail to deploy while weighing the cost. He said people like Elon Musk have 20 people around them every day.

I have Transverse Myelitis and walk with two canes, have no balance, I have afib and congestive heart failure and can’t climb stairs anymore and my chiropractor, physical therapist and doctor submitted scrips, documentation and letters to my insurance company for a lift in my garage so I can get into my house without climbing 6 stairs. The health insurance company continues to dither about, not saying no, but not saying yes and I finally had to pony up $8K out of my own pocket.
The lift was installed last January and we submitted a claim for reimbursement in March when everything was done. As of today, no decision by the health insurance company.
“Keep in mind United Healthcare has the highest deny rating (37%) of all Health Care companies.”
They have the extra expense of kicking-back money into AARP for all of the business that AARP sends to them.
Well God moves in mysterious ways and God does allow judgment to happen to people, especially bad people. So sounds like he got a good dose of it.
“Oh, like the Senators that pushed Obamacare on all of us little people BUT made sure that THEY were EXEMPT from it? /John McCain
Who claimed he was “fighting Obamacare every day” and then voted against the repeal with a thumbs-down 👎👎👎.”
Zackly - only, for some reason, political criminals and liars don’t seem to piss off as many people as other things do.
Does it justify murder in cold blood?
Does denying in network life saving care equate to murder?

Ugh....I can’t stand to see his evil face.
The most odious thing about McLame’s saving of Obamacare was that the best interests of the American people had nothing to do with his vote. It was all about spiting POTUS Trump.
He lied to all of us
I stood in line for a hour+ to vote for him too
I was in line for President Donald Trump for 3-3.5 hours this year
Straight Republican ticket and against abortion - we lost though
The only one for sheriff was a Democrat just like every other year - which I don’t get
“Leadership “teams.””
Perhaps Person A on the “team” hired a hit man to kill Person B on the “team”.
Lol.
Murder is never “justified” but people do it anyway.
Homo sapiens are not computers.
“Murder is never ok.” Wrong. If someone kidnapped, raped and murdered your kids or wife - the response to that would be murder. I would plan it very carefully and execute. But that’s just me.
He certainly was a jerk - no doubt Obama’s buddy
I have to fight my healthcare insurance provider (Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO) for the expensive biologic medication I need every month. It’s $6k. Every month, it’s the same b.s. with them denying it, having to go through appeal, and finally getting it LATE every month, only to have the cycle repeat every. damn. month.
I DO NOT understand murdering someone to draw attention to this issue AND I LIVE IT. It’s morally wrong on every level to murder someone to effect change like this..
Period.
Had this argument with my oldest son tonight. His opinion frankly disgusted me so much I walked out of his house (that I helped him buy.)
I am NOT with the crowd that cheered UHC’s CEO’s murder. I do not subscribe to the moral equivalency that crowd (and my own son) do, and I will stand and die on this hill. Their position is immoral and disggusting. As immoral and disgusting as UHC automatically denying claims via an algorithm.
Absolutely not, and I say that as someone who requires a biologic medication monthly to manage a chronic condition that can affect my heart.
Murder in the name of policy change is immoral. Period.
