We're forced to use COMCAST . . . (got THAT out of the way)
My wife's computer has been hooked into our internet wirelessly with an etherneg plug for a couple of years.
We had an electrical outage this afternoon for about an hour and a half and when it came back on, after going through some set-up things, I got up and running with no problems.
Then Liza came home.
She cannot get connected and I've tried the shut down and wait thing to no avail.
Diagnostic says the ethernet connection is what has failed.
Can that USB type ethernet plug have been fried ?
On your CONNECTED computer, you should have a connection icon on the taskbar on the lower right of your screen.

Yours will look like the little computer display screen on the left, with the plug-wire thing.
Do you remember what her connection icon looks like, or do you just get the "Network unavailable" world icon?
WiFi USB adapter. Commonly referred to as a WiFi dongle.
Sounds like good advice. It's only a few minutes burned.
You’re wife is or isn’t connected
You crack me up!
On your wife’s computer, go to Control Panel - Network and Internet - Network Connections
There should be Wi-Fi connection shown. Right click on it and click troubleshoot.
I have to admit. Some of the responses were bizarre.
When you lost power, you’re computer may have defaulted to wifi. Most computers are setup to default to ethernet if detected but I can tell you from experience that’s not always the case.
[yes . . . wasn’t I obvious enough ?]
Anyhow, assuming your girlfriend’s computer is a desktop, if this is a hardware problem, either the USB port or the Wifi USB plug/dongle is fried.
Assuming you have more than one free USB port, unplug the Wifi dongle, plug into a different port. If that fails, the WiFi dongle may need replacement.
You are almost alone on this thread for identifying the setup.
Since the OP hasn't clearly stated it, how do you know?
I get that you think you know.
“Since the OP hasn’t clearly stated it, how do you know?
I get that you think you know.”
It is stated clearly enough if you think clearly.
And I know because the OP confirmed I was correct.
“When you lost power, you’re computer may have defaulted to wifi. “
His is hard wired. No problems.
Hers is via WiFi.
Buy a wiress USB adapter to plug into your computer. It will communicate with your wireless router. No wires needed. X
Check your wireless routers internal settings.
The wireless function may be shut off or some other setting may be off.
to do this open a web browser on your working pc and enter your router’s internal IP address in the address bar, usually (192.168.0.1).
this opens a menu of router settings on your browser window.
If everything looks ok then..
On the broken PC try using a different usb port...those external wireless dongles are usually plug and play on win 10.
If all fails order a new USB wireless dongle off amazon for 15 bucks..
He could test the wireless dongle by plugging it into his working computer.
👍👍👍

He already is using one.
