I personally believe that Starmer is not "admitting it", he's just speaking down to his Serfs, letting 'em know to get on their knees.
He is wrong from the start and he knows it. Brexit was not a political movement seeking more Liberalized immigration policies, no. Brexit was in part formed against the Liberalized immigration policies foisted on the U.K., and everyone else in the EU by an EU-wide policy. And Starmers party, the Labour party was ver much opposed to Brexit and in favor of the EU in all respects.
Are the people of the U.K. going to let him get away with his lies.
And, had the previous U.K. government taken a more hard line stance on immigration, you can be dead sure Starmers party would have been opposed to it.
One hundred percent of what Starmer is doing now is just playing politics and very belatedly trying to change the positions of the Labor party vis-a-vis immigration, because it is expedient to do so.
The story maybe 20 to 30 years old but two Labor politicians admitted that the immigration policies of the 60s onward had one goal-move the UK to the left a lot left. Of course this was planned the political leaders knew exactly what they were doing.

That would surely have happened in the days when England was actually a powerful nation on the world stage. Sadly those days are long gone. The last time capital punishment for treason was carried out in England was in 1946, and in the U.S. it was in 1953.
