No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
w00t!
Sounds like athlete’s foot. They have sprays for that.
I remember an old Doonesbury cartoon where Uncle Duke explained to someone that he had landmines on his sofa because he was trying to train the dogs to stay off the furniture.
That makes total sense to me! 😂
5:45AM is way too early for that...
He didn’t reappear until after noon. I told him that, if he wants me to take him to the clinic, he can try showing up tomorrow around 8 acting civilized.
Doesn’t civilization start at 9?
Among pilots, the definition of “a good landing” is “one you walk away from.”
Ya know how ya get in there and fix one thing, and then there’s something else that crops up....?
Having a Perfect Automotive Storm these days.
At least ONE thin I think I can handle in my own garage, though it’ll likely take me all day.
But other stuff — simple stuff, and you fix it and things look good. And then, three days later, a potentially ominous warning light flickers on the dashboard.
Still, unless you’ve bought something NEW recently, the least expensive car you’ll ever own is the one you already have.
You can’t even buy a fairly OK used car for the cost of a full-on transmission overhaul, and that’s one of the priciest repair bills you’re ever likely to see.
Drive the wheels off of it, I say; everything else will only cost you MORE.

That’s a good one!
Very true!
I agree... we plan on holding on to our vehicles until we can no longer drive them... too many drawbacks on the newer models... some “features” are heinous!

I’ve got a 2018 Escape. Word is the engine will need to be replaced somewhere around 100k miles (some 60k from now). I’ll have to decide whether to re-engine the thing or get something else. I am thinking like what you said - it will still be cheaper to have a new engine put in, even though I’ll have to pay someone to do it.
Good morning. Happy Friday!
It was down to 54 fs when I walked The Princess this morning. Dark and cool - it sure doesn’t feel like July. I’m sure it won’t last. What I need is rain.
The Princess was groomed yesterday, too. I think she likes it cool, even when her fur is short.
Another “almost” Wordle day.

Update: At about 3:00 p.m., Frank’s father declared Frank’s foot to be an emergency. This meant it was my emergency, since it never occurred to him to say, “I’m worried about Frank’s foot. I’ll take him to the clinic now.” Anyway, he doesn’t know Frank’s birthday, which is an important fact in medical-type situations.
The doctor at the corner clinic found Frank’s foot puzzling: maybe poison ivy? Maybe a bacterial infection? So he prescribed an antibiotic (pills) and a steroid (ointment). Frank says the ointment reduces the itching.
Publication Notice: There will be no Morning Kitteh this Saturday and Sunday, because I’ll be out of town. Monday through Friday next week will operate on a delay, because I’ll be on the night shift at Boy Scout camp.
Good Friday Morning!
Another week has come and gone... after our foray into the triple digits, upper 90s are downright refreshing! 🤣
