No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
They’re out in early May, now, so it’s still 3 months that they’re out of school, but the whole reason for the Jun-August break was because it those were the three hottest months. Being out of the classrooms during all that heat meant the kids weren’t sweltering in the classrooms unable to focus; not to mention on the field at P.E.
Waiting until the breaking of Summer in those first two weeks of September kept you in the classroom through May when it was still pretty temperate out, and didn’t bring you back until the heat began to wane at the start of Fall.
Good morning. Happy Humph Day!
It’s still pretty warm here. The guessed rain barely materialized so we’re still watering. It’s a little tough for me to add the time at the beginning and end of every workday, but Mrs. ArGee has to water all the new bushes and trees during the heat of the day. Fortunately, she doesn’t have to do that every day.
Whose idea was it to plant this stuff in June again? Oh, yeah.
I almost got this one in 3. But “almost” only really counts in hand grenades.

Forgot to comment yesterday: I can only assume that you eliminated all/most of the inoperative vowels in those first two rows... along with some key consonants...
Around here they are out in mid May and back in by mid August... give or take a few days...
Good Midweek Morning!
He says that he’s been living near the water for his whole life...
Shopping was hot yesterday, walking across those blazing blacktop lots and loading some heavy stuff into the truck... but I am glad that I went yesterday as today is guessed to be a lot hotter!

Classic case: first word that popped into my mind after seeing row one results, thought that it was already used, checked the list and it wasn’t... there it is...

I did eliminate all the inoperative vowels. But the elimination of vowels didn’t leave me with very few choices or anything. It’s just the first one I tried (that hadn’t already been a winning word) was the answer. I don’t have that happen too often - like today where my first guess was ALMOST right.
Happy Odin’s Day.
Forecast said Sunny and cool... Sky said, “I’m cloudy and will ruin your day.”
Plus... I’m in a bad part of Minneapolis right now and didn’t want to park Abagail anywhere near this place. My junky old truck is sitting in the parking lot...

Watching a lot of BritBox helped...
I feel like a European who has never visited the United States. Does Minneapolis have any good parts?
Some parts are worse than others... This one is just a block from a Catholic charity that has a large homeless encampment partially clogging the streets around it...
Off street parking... but there are frequently used needles and other detritus laying around... some of it human shaped.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Mrs. ArGee’s parents lived in a very pretty little-ish town north of Albany. Everything is great there. It had a bit of a population explosion after 9/11 and again after COVID as people escaped to there from NYC.
But right “downtown” next to several services that it’s necessary to use is a pretty sizable homeless encampment. It’s right next to the Salvation Army.
Mrs. ArGee did not like ever going near the place.
I’m in that category as well... ☕️
I izz Agricultural Inspector kat here to look at yer tomatoes.
No idea how warm it got today, but we had FURR in the region yesterday with a plume of smoke drifting lazily northeast at 15,000 ft. Despite opening the whole house up all night long I only pulled it down to 74F, so I expect the A/C had duty this afternoon.

Good Morning!
Yes, there was a furrin influence active on that one... We hit 107° F yesterday, but the humidity wasn’t too bad, low of 39% in the afternoon...

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!
It got cooler again this morning. It’s in the 60s as I water the lawn. No rain is forecast before Tuesday. I don’t know if that already takes Bertha into account.
Young ArGee’s cat seems to be on the mend, as is young ArGee. This may all end well, only to recur as the cat continues to age.
Wordle also called my result “splendid.”

Good morning. It’s Thorsday here! Looks like rain. Frank turned up at 5:45 complaining that his foot itches terribly. He has an inflamed area from ... something ... that’s lingering. I told him to come back about 8:00, acting civilized, and I would take him to the corner clinic.
No sign of him.
