No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
I want them all!!
That's like a statute, right? Or is it "statue"?
A statue of Liz Warren would be an example of the former.
Good morning. Happy Twosday!
We haven’t had much change around here. We are still watering all the new stuff regularly. There is a guess to a rainy spell starting Saturday but I wouldn’t place money on it.
Here’s one for the “Missed it by THAT much!” category.

"Observe my statues!" ~ God
Can you believe that there was a time when the PTB felt compelled to hide the fact that David was a Gentile?!!
Nice pattern as well...
BRAVE AI:
Michelangelo’s David contains several features often mistaken for errors, which are actually either intentional artistic choices, adaptations to flawed material, or the result of historical damage.
Missing Muscle: The statue lacks the right infraspinatus muscle on its back. Michelangelo stated in letters that a defect in the marble block made it impossible to sculpt this specific muscle. However, medical researchers note this absence perfectly correlates with infraspinatus atrophy caused by a SLAP lesion (a shoulder injury common in throwers), suggesting the statue may depict a real anatomical condition rather than a pure mistake.
Disproportionate Features: The statue’s head, eyes, and right hand are significantly larger than anatomically correct proportions. These exaggerations were intentional to account for the statue’s original intended location high up on the Florence Cathedral roofline; when viewed from below, these features would appear correctly proportioned to observers on the ground. The large right hand may also reference David’s biblical nickname, manu fortis (”strong of hand”).
Structural Cracks: The statue suffers from stress fractures in its ankles and base. These cracks developed over 300 years of outdoor exposure, exacerbated by a forward tilt caused by uneven subsidence of its foundation. While not a sculptural “mistake,” the design creates a precarious center of gravity that leaves the narrow ankles vulnerable to collapse from tremors or earthquakes.
Intentional Flaws: The statue’s eyes are slightly crossed, with the left eye looking forward and the right gazing at a distance. Scholars believe this was a deliberate artistic choice to honor ancient Roman masters and signify that Michelangelo’s work was not attempting to usurp their perfection. Additionally, the statue holds the sling in its left hand but stands in a right-handed throwing stance; this contradiction may reflect the adaptive posture of a thrower with a shoulder injury or an intentional display of tension.
David was left-handed...................
Good Morning!
Hoping that it is a good week for camp, organized or not!
Not getting near the amounts of rain guessed for the start of the week, but at least it should help keep the dust down a bit...

When the Boy-child was in Scouts, I was Rangemaster as well. Was also Assistant Cub, then Assist Scout Master.
I was the resident gun-nut, Marine, etc... So never had any issues on a range I was running. :-)
Happy Tuesday. Everyone up here is hyperventilating over Summer weather in the Summer time... Go figure.

Then after a vandal took a hammer to David's left toes in 1991, the opportunity opened to analyze the marble to death.
Turned out that the quality of the stone was indeed sketchy, filled with microscopic holes.
Quite the living parable, because
the stone the sculptors refused became the head of the corner:
David is a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance sculpture in marble[1][2] created from 1501 to 1504 by Michelangelo. With a height of 5.17 metres (17 ft 0 in), the David was not only the first colossal marble statue made in the High Renaissance, but also the first since classical antiquity, setting a precedent for the 16th century and beyond.
Bonus observation wrt the statue (One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.):
There's an oddity in the King James. Normally when the translation includes words that are not in the original texts, these words are typeset differently. Italians usually, but online could be brackets as well.
What happens in the Strong's concordance is that there's one more David [H1732] in the total than the number of Davids in the original texts. David is not typeset differently, so it's like he's there, but he's not.
The "missing David" is found in the verse that informs us (and David, who's not really there) that he will be noticed for being missing:
1 Samuel 20:18Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.
"The KJV translates Strong's H1732 in the following manner: David (1,076x)."
"Strong's Number H1732 matches the Hebrew דָּוִד (dāviḏ), which occurs 1,075 times in 910 verses in the WLC Hebrew.
If he were there-there, that would make 911 verses.
It's not BLB going wonky, the printed Bibles are the same way -- David is written normally, yet the phrase in the original is actually "to him" (לו, which also spells Lou, Columbus' Jewish interpreter).
This is where the details of the statue come into play:
Author: Michelangelo Buonarroti

David no. 1076.
Not 'looking for' -- Found!
There he is, hanging out in Florence (Firenze -- "flourishing", "blooming"), hiding in plain sight for a while.
Here today really is great timing for this topic because of the new moon:

Wednesday, July 15, 2026

It all works out in the end:
Amos 9:11 In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:
No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
Well that was claimed back in 2024.
Orchard, aka Pardes, "paradise":
The word grenade comes from pomegranate, so if I were to hazard a guess for what type of orchard is involved, I would have to agree with the rebels.
Now I suppose it's remotely possible... that somewhere early on in reading this reply, Larry got to thinking that 'If I hadn't pinged Ezekiel, none of this would have exploded!'

Whatever happened to Stan Tenen and his ideas?
Thanks for the memory trigger. I had forgotten all about him.
https://www.meru.org/index.html
The particular issue I had with his work is that I really couldn’t wrap my mind around most of it. Not saying he’s wrong, or wasn’t explaining his work, just that I’d have to be led around by the nose in order to embrace the ideas.
I’m a simple person, just want to remain on solid ground.
Take squaring the circle, for example. Here’s my fun view it:
(The goal is to construct a square with the exact same area as a given circle, using only a compass and an unmarked straightedge.)
The dreidel is a square-sided spinning top that spells out the four letters that represent “a great miracle happened there” (or ‘here’, depending where you are).
Depending where you are, because the establishment of the State of Israel itself is often described as a miracle.
Looking down from overhead, the [square] dreidel becomes a circle as it spins.
(Same as if you drew a square with a compass and straightedge, then spun it around the center by the tip of the compass.)
The circle and the square have the same area because it’s the square in spin mode.
The great miracle that is the State of Israel came into existence in the Hebrew year 5708, so by the numbers:
A circle with its inscribed square having a side length of 1 unit/area of 1 unit^2, has an area of 1.5708 units.
https://www.omnicalculator.com/math/square-in-a-circle
As such, the total space outside of the square (box) = 1.5708 - 1 = .5708.
That conceptual space exists as long as the dreidel spins.
It’s a miracle for it to keep spinning forever.
David no. 1076 isn’t there but he’s there, just not in the way people think. Can’t ‘miss’ him. He’s as famous as they come!!!
More related basics re David:
In the Jewish world, the traditional year of his birth is 2854. It’s deduced from the year of the Exodus being 2448, along with the data in 1 Kings 6:
2448 + 480 - 4 - 70 (lifespan of David) = 2854
If r = 1, the area of the circle = π, and the area of the inscribed square = 2
π - 2 = 1.1416
Thus each segment “outside the box” in any direction = 1.1416/4 = .2854

Not ‘EZ’ at all.
I remember reading a strange story about someone who went nuts studying and trying to visualize alternate dimensions and got lost in it -that’s all I can remember about it. Not Abbot, but someone else. It was just a blurb I read in a book store.
Anyhow, I always thought of that when I heard Tenen speak. I know my limits :-)
I’ve never had an incident. Well, today a boy walked into the nock of an arrow that was in his target and scraped a scab he already had. There were a few drops of blood. I told him he was fine, it was already clotting ... and we put a little hand sanitizer on it and a Band-aid. I decided not to write it up, since he already had the scrape!
