Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell
Not The Bee ^ | November 26, 2024 | Staff

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Another gullywasher went through and washed out our gullies.

Please pray that we, in this neck of the woods, receive a whole bunch of gully washers. There’s many a gully needing washing in this neck of woods …… please.

We will put you down for that one on 7, use one of your weekend games for 8 and you will be caught up...

They probably have their account set up to spit out a famous quotation once (or several times) per day... I don’t think that there is any thought given to the content of the famous quotes... 🤷🏽‍♂️

Good morning. Happy Monday!

Welcome back, TC. I hope your vacation was enjoyable.

It is a bit cooler this morning. We managed to get through the weekend with our torn-up yard OK. Hopefully it will be back to normal in a few days.

Having that trailer out front all weekend was a bit of a surprise. I know they were advertising their service, but I’m not sure how much it helped in this tiny cul-de-sac.

I was very nervous about all that water right off the tee. I wiffed and was fortunate enough to land in the fairway just to the right of the water. I made up for it in my second drive, landing just to the right of the bunkers near the green. My third shot landed me on the green about 10’ from the hole where a lucky put brought me in for par.

Happy Monday... Sunny this AM, but t-storms on tap for later. I just hope the lights don’t go out while the dentist is still working on that molar I’m having problems with.

9th hole... Right off the tee I sliced it narrowly clearing the water hazard, but leaving me in a tough spot. Took a chance with a 9 iron and ended up taking a weird roll along the cart track again. Switched down to a 5 iron and dropped the ball right on the green with about a two foot putt to clear the round.

My dentist day is tomorrow. I have a cavity forming under a crown so - crown off - reshape tooth - measure for new crown - wait for that to come in - crown on. It should only take until the week after 7/4 to get it done.

Good Monday Afternoon!

Had to take one of the dogs to the vet early this morning to have her front left paw checked out... nothing earth shattering... been playing catch up ever since...

Another poor tee shot on 9... but at least I cleared the water... 2 wood again and at least I got some distance but rolled into a trap... pitch out fairly cleanly but couldn’t make the green... pushed it over the apron but too much juice and it ran right past the hole... dropped it in for the Bogey 5...

The trip was very nice, thanks. We went kayaking every morning, except Thursday, when we went hiking in the old-growth forest.

Took my two youngest out to Bodega Bay for the afternoon, yesterday.

Arriving about the lunch hour we took dining as our first priority, and — on a unanimous vote — chose an establishment offering the iconic San Francisco combination: house recipe clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl.

Our stomachs quieted with the tasty fare, we made our way to a REALLY nice, very unpopulated stretch of sand called Pinnacle Beach that was just PERFECT. I had timed our arrival to bracket Low Tide so, once on the sand, we ambled southward to a rocky portion of the shoreline where the girls got their first contact with the wonders of Tide Pools.

Though the morning overcast had never burned off, it had thinned to where the solar gain had the beach at a comfy 72-75 in spite of the constant breeze in off the ocean.

Winding home I took the scenic route through...

...the Sonoma Valley....
https://maps.app.goo.gl/S9x6erPA9uDa5dmV7

...all the way along I’m remembering how Jack London characterized it in the opening chapter of “The Call Of The Wild” and on a relaxed Sunday in early Summer, with the evening sun casting a golden hue over the vineyard-carpeted landscape — it’s EVERY bit of that.

Historic Sonoma — the outer reaches of its downtown still graced with hundred year-old Victorian homes — still exudes the aged flavor of the wine country; capturing the depth of the roots of an iconic regional industry.

It’s a 170-mile round trip, but one of lush scenic beauty, and a body could take a week driving it just to have ample time to stop and really take in all of the interesting locales along the way. And that wouldn’t even get into visiting the tasting rooms at the many wineries along the way; for THAT you’d want the services of a chauffeur and limousine.

Solid weekend, though. I fell into bed tired.

I think I’ll gimp along behind ya for a few days and pick up the catch-up hole on the newfangled Friday holiday.

This notches a Double Eagle for me on 8.

I don’t know of any way to credibly write this up as believable golf even at the Pro level. Covering 575yd in TWO strokes — that’s not pro golf; that’s Divine Intervention. LOL!

Yes, it was. There was some rain Monday and Tuesday, but we went boating during the gaps, and then Wednesday through Saturday were great. We had a bonfire Saturday night. And everyone got home safely.

That sounds wonderful. How old are your two youngest? Mine are 14 and 17, and I dreamed last night that everyone who wasn’t already employed joined the Army, including Vlad, who (in the dream) had changed his life goal from CPA to helicopter pilot.

The dream also had icebergs, dragons, and native plants. Maybe I need a therapist.

That sounds like quite a weekend. One day Mrs. ArGee and I will drive somewhere where the goal is the drive and not the end.

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

I’m off to the dentist in a bit. It’s a nice cool-ish morning with no rain in the guess. The landscapers should make great progress. It will be nice to have greenery at the front of the house again. It will also be nice to have this equipment gone.

I had a great shot off the tee, managing to stay to the right as the notes recommended. My second shot landed me on the green near the far edge with a slight uphill putt. I was being conservative so I wouldn’t overshoot and go off the green, so I was surprised to sink it on the first putt. I have a birdie to start the back 9.
