Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Happy Monday!

We had a fairly sunny and warm weekend. It was very nice yesterday as I got my mower out and mowed this lawn for the first time in many years. I got all the outside work done that I’ll be doing while we wait to decide on landscaping.

Mrs. ArGee’s aunt died on the 8th, which is the last relative from that generation. She’s waiting to hear from her cousins about a memorial service. She wants to go, but they’re taking their time setting it up.

I had a so-so start to this Wordle over. 2 runs.

Good morning. It’s Monday here, too. Kind of exhausting, actually. And I need to try again to get any of the ‘bros moving on the day. Slugs.

Sorry to hear about your wife’s aunt.

Good Monday Morning!

As noted above, we got blessed with a good amount of rain... brings our 2026 total 7.00” according to our gauge... Actually, that 1.00” was on Sunday, not Saturday...

You always make me think of Miss Piggle-Wiggle’s cure for kids who don’t want to get started in the morning.

Mrs. ArGee is not a morning person. I’m more of one. She is absolutely certain that these are inbred traits and not something that is trained into or out of us.

When I lived in the City I was always annoyed at the rain.

But thank God that you have been getting the rain you’ve been praying for.

Amen!

We are very grateful for it! Gives the pastures a half decent chance for spring growth! And at least keeps the stock tanks from further lowering...

I think it's great that we are going back to the moon, and have shown that we can get to it and back with humans on board (although we apparently need to work on our micro-gravity toilets).

I do wish I could feel more like the old NASA is back rather than some people reliving their glory days.

I guess that I don't know enough about the personalities to understand this part: "...rather than some people reliving their glory days."

You have, perhaps, heard of Dog, the Bounty Hunter...?

I wasn’t talking about personalities. Orbiting the moon is something we did 50 years ago. I know Artemis lays the foundation for more, but until we actually start doing something beyond studying rocks and bringing home samples, we’re re-living the glory of the 1960s and early 1970s.

I hope the program isn’t cancelled before we move the ball forward.

Ahh, I thought the “...rather than some people reliving their glory days.” had to do with the posted meme...

Parts of the State. A few thunder rumble here but barely any rain. Southern part of the State had a storm watcher report a tornado... but no other confirmation.
