No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Does he throw it up later?
Gorgeous kitty! Some (maybe all) Maine Coon.
Good Midweek Morning!

Still our version of early Winter here... hopefully crawling out of it soon!

Ugh...
Which is why the bathroom where I do my hair is closed and off limits to kittahs.
They are beautiful and have very nice personalities I have heard.
Wonder if they throw up?
Probably.
I don’t know what kind it is, but all long-haired cats get hairballs and throw up.
It seems to be bred to live in the snow.
I had a Maine Coon cat. Loved water. A beautiful animal.
And so do the short haired ones.
I wonder about the Sphynx cats. Poor hairless things.
I think intentionally perpetuating the hairless cats was immoral.
I feel the same way about the curly coated cats. Sure they look cute but their whiskers are brittle and break off. Which is painful and reduces one of the necessary things cats need to get around in the world.
And don't even get me started on the flat faced cats and dogs. Why would you breed an animal for ill health?
So, today we have “fire weather”; it’s clear, unseasonably warm, it’s been foggy, but no rain, so it’s dry, and there’s a blustery wind knocking down the lingering dead leaves in the trees. It’s just the sort of weather that will well sustain a wildfire if one were to get started.

Today, I got the pattern, but ran outta road... There are SIX possible first letters;
Yeah, I needed the previously used words for that one.
And they look ugly, too.
Lily the Dog is a Doberman which means that we will probably lose her this year. She is 14 and that is generally as long as they live. The European Working Line, which should be the best one, has become so inbred that they have the shortest life span. American Pet line is the longest living.
It should be the other way around. The carefully curated and bred dogs should be the healthiest.
Instead it is the back yard breeders who "I have a Doberman female, you have a Doberman male, let's breed them and sell the pups" that are where the hope of keeping the breed alive is.
Close inbreeding is not healthy in animals either.
It was a tough pattern... I got very lucky with my yellow letters on row two...
Good morning Happy Friday Eve!
I had a long day trip yesterday for owrk. I left the house at 5am and got back at 10pm. No time for even a drive-by post here. Sorry I missed an excellent discussion about purebreds. We’ve noticed many health issues in our standard poodle.
There probably aren’t enough dogs to keep the lines fresh when you want a purebred, especially in poodles since so many people want mixes these days. My B-I-L bought a dog from the same breeder as ours and it died of bloat within 3 years. Ours has seizures (but not since last Christmas Eve Day 🤞) and liver trouble.
But she’s a sweetie!!!
Anyway, here are 2 Wordle scores. I was able to do yesterday’s Wordle in a brief period on the subway.
