Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

I understood a little of what you guys were talking about.

I know what ignition and engine are. I didn’t see anything about the inertial dampers or the matter/anti-matter reaction chambers, which would have meant something to me.

Too much time reading Sci-Fi, not enough time in the garage when I was young, I guess.

Fresh out of alluvial dampers and dilithium crystals...

Speaking of “fresh out of” and alluvial stuff, did you happen to notice there’s a company making gasoline from recaptured atmospheric CO2?

https://www.aircela.com/

Makes me think about those theories that fossil fuels aren’t really from fossils.

It’s windy here, too. A guy came by and dropped a bunch of roofing material in the driveway. It looks like the new roof will be going on soon.

I haven’t tried those new self-installing roofs. I may need to pretty soon.

Wow! You are doing a much more comprehensive rebuild! It sounds like it will be fantastic when you are done!

Well I was able to work on the vintage of cars that were easily understandable by shade tree mechanics... I can’t do much on these modern vehicles at all!

Oh nice, I didn’t know that you were getting a new roof soon!

Saw it, yes.

Also... There is as much sub-surface/microbial life in the crust of our planet than was ever livin on the surface. This entire mud ball is one big hydro-carbon engine. The idea that only Cretaceous dino juice is the source of all this oil has always rung a little off tune to me.

Eh... It’s been a stop/start/stop/wait a LONG time/start again type thing. The car looks like crap and may not even run at this point necessesitating removing the engine from the car again and “gasket rebuild” due to age...

Will keep ya’all posted if the interest is there.

I did the VCT’s on my 2011 Ford V8... Wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be, but nothing I’d want to do again any time soon.

New VCT’s, cam chains, phasers (cam timing phase control gear looking thingies... not the Star Trek stuff), and a new oil pump while I had the front torn apart.

Only real tricky bit was needing to buy a couple Ford specialty tools from Bezos/China...

Where’s the old 305?

I had a friend in college running a 305 in a ‘68 Camaro that notched NHRA certified 11’s. Redline was 8 grand, IIRC; might’ve been 8500. Obviously it was METICULOUSLY blueprinted and balanced, but that motor would HOWL. With a 4-speed box, 5.11 gearset out back, and a set of sticky McCreary’s gluing it to the track, that care hooked up and blitzed.

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

NYC is celebrating Juneteenth today so I’m off work. I’m going to donate some books to a place about 45 min away this morning then take lots of trips to the transfer station with trash/recyclables/scrap metal/small appliances.

We’re nearing the point of having the home appraiser come. Mrs. ArGee doesn’t want them to see all the clutter because “they’re human and it will reduce the appraisal.” I figure they’ve seen it all before, but she’s the Executor.

I haven’t solved the Wordle yet and I’m out of guesses at the moment. I may post my score later if I solve it before it’s too late.

Oh, and it was over 70 when I walked The Princess this morning. It’s going to be a (relative) scorcher.

I had to look that one up! Had never heard of VCT before... didn’t know that the technology existed! I always believed in replacing/servicing everything reachable when some section is opened up...
