No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Nope, they never id’d it, but some called it an ‘incendiary device’ instead of a bomb...................
Probably an old road flare. Thanks!
1978. It was a gutted chassis when I pulled it out of a friends dairy barn. Literally needed to bring my own wheels just to roll it out, it was on jack stands. Originally a 305, it has a rebuilt 350 in it now. Has some aftermarket toys I added when rebuilding the 350. TH350 tranny swapped with a TH400 I rebuilt.
I keep having to park it because life events keep getting in the way. Getting married, moving to Texas, moving back again, children...
Now? It’s just me here so I dug it out of the weeds, cleaned the mouse nests out of it, and am trying to get it running again. Body needs a LOT of work/paint, but it’s straight. Carpet and most of the interior needs replacing, but there’s no holes in the floorboards and the dash panel is in great condition.
Replaced most of the fuel system, from the tank to the new EFI, and will also need to redo the entire braking system... but nothing I can’t handle with enough good weather and spare time.
Could have been a incendiary grenade that was used by the military to burn stuff up..............

I’m not sure how ‘Face used to scout out new digs, but apparently we’ve been here too long as the broader FR world has started to discover us again.
Just poked around, I think.
Because you’re brave and I’m chicken.
Left eye done. Don’t recall a thing intraoperatively. No pain or discomfort. Computer screen looks much brighter with left eye and doesn’t have a darkened, yellowish cast as it does with the right eye.
Yeah! Everything is amazingly blue!
That’s great news!
Good news, SG!
We’ll pray the same happens with the right eye if not better.
Good morning. Happy Humph Day!
It’s gloomy out but it didn’t rain on me and The Princess this morning. It’s supposed to get very warm today.
I read yesteray that this new COVID strain gives people “razor sore throat.” I would have described it as an inferno, not as having swallowed a razor blade, but maybe that’s what I had. Anyway the symptoms are almost 100% gone now so I just need to catch up on my sleep. I’ll keep drinking the “throat coat” tea for a few days just to be on the safe side.
As proof that “I’d rather be lucky than good” I present today’s Wordle.

I remember that year, nice looking car... I had a 1968 that was my first car bought it in the mid 70s and did a lot of work on it... as much as a high school kid with no real experience other than reading Hot Rod magazines and Chilton manuals...
My recollection is that it had a 350 under the hood when I bought it, but I don’t think that it was the original engine... I put in a 3/4 lift cam with solid lifters, and found a set of 327 fuelie heads from a 63 Corvette that were ported and polished and CC’ed... left abandoned at a speed shop and I got them for the price of the shop’s labor...
Added the requisite Edlebrock high rise manifold and a big double-pump dual feed Holley carb... Nice set of Appliance headers with an exhaust system with collectors in the middle so that I could easily open it up right out on the road...
Pretty sweet ride for a while... I got in too much trouble with it before I even got around to doing what needed to be done on the drivetrain... sold it to another kid in the area that added a nitro system to it and wrapped it around a tree...
The thing that I remember the most about that car was the look of (at first surprise and astonishment!) pride on my father’s face when I first fired it up on a Sunday evening... after seeing the whole engine taken apart and sitting in various trays in his garage for almost a year, he was probably happier than I was that the engine actually started!
I’m not sure how she approached it... I think that sometimes OPs would let her know about certain threads...
Great! Hopefully the right one will work out equally well!
When I saw an article about that last evening I wondered if that was what you had... 🤷🏽♂️
Good Midweek Morning!
Supposed to be very windy around here for some reason today...
This one was a tough one, I got lucky on row 3 and had mucho elimination...

The motor in the Camaro originally came out of a ‘79 Caprice. 2-bolt mains, but I’m not supercharging or running nitrous. Nor do I have it built out for 10k RPM...
Weiand dual-plane q-jet inake... but I took the q-jet off and am installing a Holley Sniper 2. Stock heads, but I did a “gasket match” home port/polish job on it. Crane Hi-intensity roller rockers. Rhoads cam/lifter set with cam button and walk plate. TCI 10” Holeshot convertor and flex plate mated up to a rebuilt “red band” TH-400 and a custom cut and balanced drive shaft.
Hyper-spark coil, Melling oil pump, the usual CL-77 bearings, TrickFlow headers into 4” collectors through 3” Thrush glasspack mufflers... Weiand water pump, Cloyes “true roller” timing chain... B&M Megashifter with a “Skull” knob on it that I cast from aluminmum as a shop project a billion years ago...
Not sure how much of that is still going to work as intended considering the car hasn’t been running in almost a decade... but we’ll see.
Other than that... I need to do brakes, possibly a complete re-plumb of everything... Annoying, but not hard to do... Upgrade the front control arms... possibly while upgrading brakes... and do something with that stock rear-diff... I like the Powertrax type differential as I just don’t care about the clacking noise during turns as long as there is a “no-slip” when I go to put the HP to the wheels when I need it there...
Then... there’s the interior... Oh boy... :-|
Eventually... Brodix heads... maybe a different intake... Upgrade to a crank-trigger ignition. We’ll see.
