Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good show!

(I guess that is better than a crypt event….)

Yeah but it is the bestest one. :)

At least so the two orange flavored ones told me. They do not often agree but on this Andre (indoors) and Ginger (barn) agree.

My client seems to only have cryptic events.

Yeah, sometimes it’s hard not to like the “Kill ‘em all and let God sort ‘em out.” approach to life.

But then reality comes creeping back.

I am struggling with the desire to publicly shame someone who I had to toss out of the store last week for “rudeness to the staff”. She has been formally trespassed and the police will arrest her if she shows back up in the store. But I have to admit to still being angry and thinking it is not enough.

You have a problem with me, fine. Come to me and we will talk about it. Or you can yell and I will attempt to be polite.

But do not take it out on my employees.

I have tried to let it go. But it has been a week and I am still internally laminating that locking people in the stocks is not still in vogue.

There is a nice little spot in the park that would be perfect.

It can be very difficult to tolerate the rude and thoughtless.

Unfortunately, with online “relationships” people become more used to acting on their worst instincts because they’re normally not face-to-face with the people they’re being rude to.

Fortunately, that’s not a UT problem.

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

The car shop’s state inspection guy has a sick child, so no inspection and oil change this morning. But because I had to drive to my appointment to find that out I’m a little bit behind on things.

The weather is getting warmer. It’s a little more “June” like today. It sure looks nice out there. Too bad I can’t just put my setup on a porch or something and work outside.

Wordle gave me too many options out of the gate this morning. Today I made all the wrong guesses.

Should be a quieter day for me today... Which, is kinda boring...

Rode in today because it’s Sunny/hazy but warm and dry. Traffic was deliberately aggravating today. This cannot be randomly this bad... This HAS to be a concerted effort to screw with productive people trying to get to work.

Anyway...

Good Midweek Morning!

High pressure dome, where are you?

This was a tough one for me that took forever... especially with the stupid mistake on row 3... at that point I don’t think there was another eligible word that worked...

Speaking of words that worked and words that are “maybe” words, yesterday before I tried admin I actually tried addin, and that was an acceptable word.

Agreed.

Yesterday’s puzzle tippy-toed over the borderline of what belongs in the dictionary proper, and what constitutes ever-malleable slang.

Open the windows if it won’t top 78 degrees outside.

I ventilate the house all night long, moderating by how far I open the various windows. I target a morning indoor temperature between 68 and 72, then button the place up before 8am. It can top 100 outside and I won’t break 80 indoors, even with the A/C turned off.

...

Sneaky puzzle this morning. But I guess we’d all get bored if it were too simple.
