No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Oh, Ive been wondering a lot about that lately... in the case of the severe weather, painting with a broad brush, those being punished the most generally aren’t in the non-Godly group...
At some level, there seems to be a flaw in the system... would like to see the needed rains be provided, without all of the destructive accompaniment...
I had put down some grass seed before all this started, so... I’m ok with a slow steady soak.
We had some boomers roll through last night, but nothing major. No tornados or anything like that in my AO.
Prayers up for those affected by the tornado damage...
Until an F5 rolls through Washington,DC or Sacremento,CA...
I’m going to assume JHVH is just letting us handle things on our own.
I was one of those, “Why spend all that money on Apple when you get locked out of all the options that Windoze users get?” people until Microsquish announced that there would be some updates in Windows 10 that you couldn’t postpone.
Nope. Sorry. My computer, my rules. So I switched and I haven’t looked back.
The trouble is that God judges nations, not just individuals.
Remember that only 1 person kept stuff from Jericho that was supposed to be devoted to destruction, but many died when the Israelites attacked Ai.
Slow steady soak is great for newly seeded areas... we don’t get that very often... it seems to be very drought-like then come strong storms that are gully washers... we have very sandy soil here which is great for absorption but the last round of storms put down so much water at once that a ton of sand got washed down the slope of the front yard onto the driveway so that it looks like a beach road at this point...
It is a wonder that anything grows here at all...
Seems to be the case!
It has been almost 25 years of Macs for me... Soon after I took an early retirement buyout, I joined a small startup as a consultant and everyone there used Macs... so, when in Rome... I never looked back...
Very true, very true...
Been a little queasy all morning so I’m working from home.
Got the patio door open. It’s just a nice day.
Turned the irrigation back on for the late spring run through summer. Everything is leaping up and all the new growth has fresh, bright green tips showing.
I was mulling other ways to score Wordle, and one was to note the ratio of green to black (or white) squares, but then I thought maybe an even better way would be to note the ratio of green to TOTAL squares so that, along with the usual count for the number of attempts, there might be an additional stat that expressed how well you put right letters in right places along the way.
So, while my 4, is pretty good overall, with just 9 of 20 squares in the green, or 45%.
By contrast, zzeeman posting a 5, which feels a bit of an underperformance, still got 14 of 25 squares green; 56%
Or, maybe ameliorate the guess total by the ratio of black (or white) squares to the total?
My 4 would still rate a 45%, but then maybe multiply by 1.45 for a final of 5.8?
By that method, zzeeman’s 5, with 36% in the black, scores a final of 6.8.
Just playing around a bit with some way to put an additional layer in the mix that modifies the number of attempts with an indication of how close you were.

Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly today.
Was going to say, “under the weather”... but didn’t want to confuse topics since meterology seems to write itself in large portions of our discourse here...
OIW... still raining here... Not torrential, just mild and consistent.
I’m very sorry. What a beautiful cat!
She was beautiful and so sweet. Lots of tears yesterday.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
