Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

“... had a ball Friday, Saturday and Sunday....
But it’s all over now and it sure is a Monday!”

I got straight off the 4th tee right onto the putting surface and thought I could be looking at another Birdie to get me back to even par. Aaaannnd... that’s as good as it got. First put missed to the left, second one came right up, dribbled off to the right a little bit and just hung there in defiance on the edge of the hole. I didn’t actually make a “regulation” putt for the Bogey, I walked up and stomped on the ground about 6 inches from my ball, and it just sort of keeled over into the cup.

I’m off to a rough showing, so far this round. On to the 5th and back at 2 over.

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

I’z gonna getcha!

Mrs. ArGee found a trunk in the basement yesterday that had some clothes in it, but was too heavy for the clothes. So she removed them to find dozens of jars of peanut butter, jam, and honey. What??? They’re thinking of how to feed the peanut butter to the local squirrels. I’m thinking fat squirrels are not a good idea. But otherwise it’s to the dump for everything.

My hip had been bothering me yesterday so I wasn’t able to take my normal stance for my first drive. I must have done something very right because I hit a monster 400 yarder that put me on the right edge of the fairway on a straight line with the flag. With only 60 yards to go I lofted the ball onto the green where it shocked me by rolling straight into the cup.

So I go into hole 6 at 3 under. Maybe I’ll let my hip keep bothering me today.

Honey doesn’t go bad. They’ve found usable honey in Egyptian tombs.

Put the peanut butter on bread to feed the squirrels or bait a mousetrap.

Excellent wordle!

Honey doesn’t go bad.

That's true, but this honey was packaged in plastic containers. The plastic breaks down over time and gets into the food. So Mrs. ArGee isn't planning to use the honey.

They were thinking of spreading the peanut butter on pine cones, which sounds like an excellent idea for getting it out to the squirrels without wasting other food.

Good Morning!

The foreguess for the week is back to seasonable temps, more humidity, and on and off rains... we could use some rain...

This hole was pure dumb luck (i.e., one in which the Wordle game result doesn’t match up well with the hole!)... I too had a monster drive beyond belief and an equally monstrous shot with a fairway wood that ended up in the cup... 😂
