No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
That’s a pretty neat idea! I am sure that they will find it to be of interest at some point... even the grands!
Good Morning!
Another week is almost in the books... time for my weekly trip to town again...
Such an expanse of undulating grass is what came to mind from the 17th tee... luck was certainly with me today as I hit a monster tee shot that got me well down the fairway and avoided all of the nasty traps... on in two with a nicely swung 5 iron... and a fairly easy putt for the Birdie 3...

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!
The funeral is set for Saturday at 10am. Mrs. ArGee is in full “let’s get things done right” mode so the loss of her mother will probably hit her Sunday.
Young ArGee is on her way here. The first leg of her flight leads her to Reagan National. Hopefully ATC is doing their jobs today. I’ll pick her up at the airport later this morning.
I don’t know if I mentioned that the people who came to retrieve M-I-L’s body arrived in suits. 4AM and they took the time to dress up and put on ties to show respect for the dead and her family. Those are some good people. I was impressed.
It’s hard not to get excited about finally putting NYS behind and returning to the Wildlands. Especially since it’s further south. (It was 25 fs this morning for The Walk.) But that would create a sense of pressure for Mrs. ArGee so I’ll try to keep it inside. Maybe it will spill out here occasionally.
The 17th hole looked relatively straightforward so I played it relatively straightfowardly. ZZ’s warning that I had a great lead made me think of Houston and Florida so I’m going to try not to blow it by being too aggressive.
I managed to avoid the semi-colon of sand traps to put the ball on the green in 3. A modest 6 foot putt put me in the cup for par.

One purpose of the Undead Thread is to give us a place to spill stuff that can’t be dumped out in Real Life. Where are your Wildlands again?
Nice job on your Wordle.
You are correct... it probably won’t fully hit her until after the funeral...
I had no idea that y’all would be moving shortly... that sounds exciting if it is to a place that you have been looking forward to...
I had picked Texas Tech to beat Houston in the final, so at that point I had no real rooting interest... was glad that Houston made it that far... 🤷🏽♂️
Still a bit cold, and a little damp after a quick t-storm last night... but rode the bike in this morning to a client site. Supposed to be much nicer this afternoon.
Desulutry whack from the t-box was disappointing... Tried a #3 wood from the fairway with some decent leg under it. #5 iron to drop me on the green and a long putt to close out the hole.

Mrs. ArGee is a little nervious about having too much actual information out on the interwebs. I think it’s safe to say that it’s far enough away from NYC to be very rural and close enough to go there when work demands.
And, probably not as conservative a local government as I’d like, but much more conservative than here in NYS. (not a high bar, I know)
Good that you got a chance to take her in!
👍🏼
I’m very sorry about your loss. I know it was not unexpected, but I’ve found that that doesn’t alwaysmake it easier. You and your family are in my prayers.
Still not sure of the sound with the catalyitic removed... I mean, it sounds impressive and she seems to have more “oomph” to the throttle...
Waiting to run through a few tanks of gas to see how the mileage shakes out. I might put the cat back on.
You’ve perhaps heard the line about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...? I feel reasonably certain the witicism was birthed during a round of golf.
From the tee this hole began well with a good drive that set up a fairway iron shot that had potential to find the green. It found sand, instead, and burrowed in. So 1 - 2 and a chip became 1 - 2 and “CALL BEFORE DIGGING.”
Incidentally, I have a new theory about the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa.
My pitch out of the — ...
I SAID... My pitch OUT of the trap up onto the green left me with a long putt that agonized its way across the green, dribbled to a stop at the very lip of the hole, paused for an eternity of dramatic effect, then toppled into the cup for The Most Theatrical Bogey Ever.
I manage to bookend misery with a couple of fine strokes here on 17, but my score slips to par as I slip away to the 18th tee.

Prayers for you and your family ArGee. May God grant all of your family members peace. Amen.
Okay. That's sufficient information to convey the idea that when you say "south," you don't mean Georgia. Probably: you could get a flight out of Atlanta into Newark ...
Snek!
Thank you, Allegra. I appreciate the prayers.
Thank you, N-T-I. I appreciate the prayer.
Good morning, everyone. Happy Friday!
A rare photo of the elusive repticat. Well done.
We had pizza with Mrs. ArGee’s brother and niece yesterday and then the two adult children did stuff related to funeral prep. This morning Mrs. ArGee was wondering why she felt so disorganized when she’s done this before AND they did so much preparation. I reminded her that for her father, there was almost a week between the death and the funeral. With her mother it’s 4 days.
We had some snow on the ground again this morning, and flurries during “The Walk.” (sigh)
Once again I played it safe. I wasn’t too worried about the drive to the fairway. I reached it in two. But, with my putting history, I didn’t try to make the 16 foot putt with one stroke. I might have made it with a little bit harder swing as the ball stopped within a foot of the cup. That gave me an easy tap-in for par.

Good Friday Morning!
There it is... another week that has flashed by... we are enjoying some nice Spring weather here... biggest bonus is that the air has been nice and dry!
And with the close of the week, comes the close of the round... The 18th hole being a tad under 400 yards and pretty much a broad straightaway, just screams out for monster tee shots... luck was with me today and I hit a monster off the tee... with the roll I ended up in that broad valley with the green in range of a easy chip...
Using my 5 iron I got off a nice swing and the ball came down just past the pin which is very close to the nearside of the green.... more luck ensued as it had a bit of back spin and gently rolled in for Eagle to end the round...

Happy Friday... My kids are coming later today after dinner... Supposed to be excellent weather for the weekend. Will have to find some kind of outdoor activity to go do...
Caught a great drive down the fairway that had a decent lie to it. Taking a chance, I grabbed a #3 wood and managed to drop it right on the green. Putt had a bit of distance to it, but curved up along an edge and drained back into the hole... Didn’t think that one would actually work as intended, but there we are.
