No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!
The Princess is definitely noticing that her fur is shorter. She gets a little more spunky when she’s not so weighed down. She doesn’t seem to mind that it’s still cool. I suspect she feels too warm when we get close to grooming.
Mrs. ArGee has determined that her mother is only out of bed about 7 hours every day. It doesn’t sound like much of a life. M-I-L also managed to get her wheelchair seatbelt off by herself yesterday. That doesn’t bode well since she often slides down in the chair. We’ll see if she keeps that up.
My drive off the tee almost made it to the cart track in the middle of the fairway. It stopped just shy, allowing me to make my second shot from grass instead of from the path surface. I spent a long time looking at my putt, concerned the ball would break away from the hole as it has been doing on the earlier holes in this round. But today I read things correctly and the ball dropped in on the third stroke.

Good Morning!
Mrs. zz and M-I-L have been talking about shearing our Pyrenees this Summer... They do have extremely heavy coats, so it makes sense from a cooling point of view in the heat of the Summer... M-I-L always shears her Pyrenees and I think that it makes them look stupid for several weeks...
On the par 4 7th hole I went gopher hunting... got on top of the tee shot and it bounced and rolled dismally about 120 yards... on top of the next one as well... a screaming grounder that died about 50 yards before the cart track... trying to redeem myself I hit a nice hard 5 iron getting under the ball and lofted it high onto the back of the green... generous backspin pulled it toward the pin and it rolled right into the cup for the birdie 3...

37 degree with 54 on tap for later... So of course I rode my bike to the client this morning... :-) Happy commuter smiles...
Pretty sure someone has sabbotaged my driver. Hooked it hard into the rough, but still had good distance... LONG frustrated smack with a 3 iron dropped me right on the edge of green though. Popped it up with a wedge and it took a lucky roll right into the cup.
I’ll take it. :-)

No... not unless it’s some kind of “snow has melted and now you are getting hit with leaf mold” type thing. Nothing is sprouting that much up here. A few small buds, hints of tulip pushing up... No big pollen sources yet.
Yes, she would. I poked my nose into her realm on that one.
It’s good to hear from you. Our loss stirred up some reminiscence of my earlier days on the UT, and brought to mind several now-disused screen names that were one prominent among us, who’s banter we enjoyed, and now the more treasure.
The scooter idea... well... My daily driver is a small enough car that a hitch-borne scooter deck would substantively adore its handling, and I’m a more, uhhhh, “active” driver than the average bear.
No, embracing the walking distance is the best option; I need the exercise. Also, I watched as my late father in-law went from walking with braces, to walking with canes and braces, to increasingly choosing his power chair, and this slowly losing his ability to walk more than just a dozen feet or so. Atrophy is an unheralded terror to be assiduously opposed.
Good for you on the ride!
It looks like we all had an amazing short game today...
I guess it will be coming soon...
🤣
I don’t do a lot of walking, but I can still walk normally, if a bit slower than before.
When I get up in the morning, I get up quietly, so as to not awaken the pops and squeeks of any joints that may need better lubrication.
Let them sleep in, say I.
This course... I’m seeing a theme developing: tees and trees.
Shooting out of a tree-framed hole, again, here on seven, the pin is directly ahead with a profusion of sand to the left along the way. A good, straight drive set me up for a chance at getting onto the green in two, which I achieved with a solid 3-iron second shot, but not as well as hoped. With the pin forward on the green, the low angle of the long iron skipped the ball well past the cup setting up a very long putt back at the pin from the back of the green. Forty feet proved too much for my “short game,” and, although I got close, a fourth stroke was needed to close out the hole.
Still, making par to hold at 2-under isn’t bad livin’.

Good morning. Happy Friday!
We lost power for a very short period 3 times last night. One of them messed up the clock in the bedroom, which does NOT flash when it’s regained power. The Princess wanted up on the bed and I was sure I had seen a later time than midnight but that’s what the clock said so ... the alarm went off a little later and I figured out what had disturbed The Princess. I don’t know what’s caused the outages. Maybe the state is just suffering brown-outs as it continues to try to limp along with green (and non-nuclear) energy sources.
I did OK driving past the dog-leg on Hole 8, but hit the sand trap on the left on my way to the green. I was able to chip out of it onto the green near the hole so it was an easy put for a par.

Good Friday Morning!
Our rain finally came yesterday, though a bit later than foreguessed... we should get a bit more later today as well...
A so-so drive off the tee got me a good lie, albeit not as far down the fairway as I hoped... however an incredible drive with a fairway wood placed me in chipping distance of the green... continuing the dream of a short game, I once again chipped up beautifully with a short roll into the cup for the birdie 3...

I will head to the 9th tee on Monday morning at a surprising 3 under... ⛳️
I’m Left-handed so instead of slicing I hook... No different on the opening drive here... SOLID whack with a 3 iron dropped me on the green for a LOOOOONG putt that I then missed... Dropped in a short stroke to end the hole.

Luck... My heart really wasn’t in it today... Friday... got my kids coming tonight, but I still need to try to justify my existience here at work until then.
Cheers...
Enjoy the kids!
Setup for someone…
Just heard my first rumble of thunder for the season... Cool.
