LOS ANGELES – Four people who allegedly had a person dressed as a bear damaging their own luxury cars in a bid to defraud insurance companies were arrested in the US state of California on Nov 13.
Suspicions were aroused when a claim was made for ripped seats and damaged doors on a luxury Rolls-Royce Ghost, an exclusive vehicle worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Claimants said a bear entered into the car when it was parked in Lake Arrowhead, a mountain spot outside Los Angeles, wreaking havoc on its interior.
To back up their claim, they provided photos of the damage as well as footage from a security camera, which they said showed the animal inside the vehicle.
But the company smelled a rat and contacted insurance fraud detectives.
“Upon further scrutiny of the video, the investigation determined the bear was actually a person in a bear costume,” said a release from the California Department of Insurance.

They figured a bear costume was better than a Bigfoot one.
Wow. Look at those bail amounts.
Apparently they have done this successfully before, in spite of their bear performer not looking or acting much like a bear. Just didn’t have a very convincing bear butt and hind legs. Should have claimed the damage was from a homeless guy instead.
The precisely spaced “claw marks” were also really lame.
According to Los Angeles County booking records, bail for Tamrazian was set at $85,000 pending court proceedings. Chirkinian and Muradkhanyan were being held in lieu of $30,000 bail each.
Bears leave bits of fur and a distinct aroma behind. The insurance inspector knew it was fraud right away.
As I understand it they only have to come up with 10% of that amount to make bail.
Hey what happened to bail for the Jewish guy (or gal?), or did he (she) skedaddle?
Over 20 replies and nothing about the right to bear arms? We’re slipping.
Maybe they were transitioning to be a bear? It is CA after all.
A bear can remove the door or windshield of a car with what looks like lazy indifference. No human could fake a bear assault on a car damage wise.
Or arm bears....a lot of election fatigue I suspect 😏
The most insurance companies did make a grizzly discovery.
lol
What’s ursine?
Ursine....having to do with Ursus or bears
“As I understand it they only have to come up with 10% of that amount to make bail.”
Yes, typically. The process involves a Bail-bond which is procured from a bail-bondsman - you give them a non-refundable 10% and they pay the court the other 90%. You skip bail then these guys hunt your ass down and you go the jail until your trial has concluded.
They can also pass on the bond if you are a flight risk.
This is hilarious!
Is that Bear suit available on Amazon?
Maybe Temu. No return or refunds.
Known to fall apart in washer spin cycle.
Hmm. Am I seeing a pattern here?
“”I was going to guess foreigners.””
And I would guess non citizens - illegals!!
