Counting Down my iTunes Play Count (VANITY) -- Day #48
AC’s iTunes Directory | 11/8/2024 | Alberta's Child

Posted on 11/08/2024 8:54:39 AM PST by Alberta's Child

Day #48 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I've been posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the last couple of months. We are coming down the home stretch here, folks -- and we will be done by early next week, God willing!

And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making contributions for both the 3rd and 4th quarter fundraisers. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)

Have fun with this, folks!

Pinging to those from the previous threads. This one might be the most obscure on the list. Ian Tyson is an iconic figure from the Canadian music scene dating back to the 1960s. Started as a folk artist as one half of the "Ian & Sylvia" duo, then migrated to classic country when he settled down in southern Alberta. Many of his country songs still reflected some of his early folk roots.

Tyson might have been one of the most original and unique country music artists in North America. Started his career as a rodeo rider, learned to play guitar while recovering from a serious injury after getting tossed off a horse in a rodeo, and decided that the music business was better in the long run. He moved to Alberta in the late 1970s and spent the next 40 years running a ranch where he raised cattle and trained horses while still turning out music and touring mostly in small-town venues in the western U.S. and Canada.

"Fifty Years Ago" is a timeless classic of reminiscing about days gone by. I first came across Ian Tyson on country radio stations in Calgary back in the day, and some of these songs have really grown on my over the years.

"And the sighing of the pines, up here near the timberline ... makes me wish I'd done things different, oh but wishing don't make it so."

Let me know if you'd like to be added or removed from the ping list!

It took me a few days to realize I was being waterboarded. By then it was too late. Just lay back and enjoy it.

The math teacher that I had in 1965-1966 was an Ian & Sylvia fan.

A strumming cowboy. Nice steel guitar. Did he Hava a band to help out or is he using studio players? Some studio players are really very good.

I think Ian Tyson had a regular band that played with him, but for these commercially produced records he may have used studio players.
