#5 -- "Fifty Years Ago" by Ian Tyson
Tyson might have been one of the most original and unique country music artists in North America. Started his career as a rodeo rider, learned to play guitar while recovering from a serious injury after getting tossed off a horse in a rodeo, and decided that the music business was better in the long run. He moved to Alberta in the late 1970s and spent the next 40 years running a ranch where he raised cattle and trained horses while still turning out music and touring mostly in small-town venues in the western U.S. and Canada.
"Fifty Years Ago" is a timeless classic of reminiscing about days gone by. I first came across Ian Tyson on country radio stations in Calgary back in the day, and some of these songs have really grown on my over the years.
"And the sighing of the pines, up here near the timberline ... makes me wish I'd done things different, oh but wishing don't make it so."
Let me know if you'd like to be added or removed from the ping list!
A strumming cowboy. Nice steel guitar. Did he Hava a band to help out or is he using studio players? Some studio players are really very good.
