Tom Hanks’ ‘Here’ Flops Miserably At Box Office

The new Tom Hanks flick titled “Here” failed to impress and generated just $5 million at the box office.

Adding to the issue is the fact that the Robert Zemeckis-directed film cost $50 million for Miramax to make, according to Deadline. The movie was released by Sony and saw the reunion of the “Forrest Gump” gang by bringing together Hanks, Robin Wright and Eric Roth.

The movie centers around a multi-generation family and takes place in just one location.

Zemeckis has a number of hits under his belt, including “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?,” “Forrest Gump” and “The Polar Express,” but “Here” has failed to deliver.

Sources told Deadline the movie seemed to struggle from the start, as a number of studios passed on the film, citing the fact that it wouldn’t appeal to broad audiences. Paramount was among those that passed on the opportunity.

Foreign sales largely financed the movie, without a domestic investor.

“I have to give all the credit to (former Miramax Head) Bill Block who had the courage and had the vision to understand the movie and make it,” Zemeckis told Deadline.

“He’s the one guy who had the conviction to do this. That was fantastic. Thank God that he was there to do it.”

Sony rescued the movie by striking a distribution deal based on their relationship with Hanks on “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” and “A Man Called Otto.” The company is still attempting to recoup their costs, according to Deadline.

“I think the theatrical movie business is in a stressful situation right now,” Zemeckis said.

I think in the past 10 years, the libs forgot how to make a decent movie due to the woke ideology.

Apparently Tom Cruise is immune because he's a Scientologist.

..., making a movie requires hundreds of people, sometimes thousands, and they are not all ‘libs’, but they do need their jobs to feed their families...............

And Bud Light needs workers, too, but tough shit. Learn to code.

It’s based on an adult comic book and I think that was the title of the comic. It’s about what transpires in a particular space, in this case a home, the land, over time. It sounds like an interesting premise, not sure what the execution is like. I had wanted to see it and may still.

“I personally detested Forrest Gump”

ditto ... and i’ll never forgive it for winning best picture and denying that award to “Pulp Fiction”, a true classic ...

If the product carries a strong marxist message I won’t buy it.

“The Time Machine” from 1960 does it and does it well.

He can’t open! The shark jumped at Ladykillers. You could say Perdition but that was an ok movie. Hanks nearly ruined Elvis.

I saw him in Big long ago...he was OK. I also saw him in You’ve Got Mail which was an old girlfriend’s favorite film. It was a pretty cute film...for a chick flick...but Meg Ryan really stole the show.

Adrian Zmed stole that movie.

**Hanks is a big lib, boycott him. We don’t need those folks in Hollywood, but they do need us.**
Hanks is a great actor-give him his due.

**If the product carries a strong marxist message I won’t buy it.**
All 4 Lethal Weapon flicks did the same.

As for Forrest Gump it appealed to the good feel simpleton crowd. It worked just like ‘Being There’ with the Inspector Cleausau character playing a simpleton. Want another? How about John Wayne in True Grit. A drunk hero that won him an Oscar after all the manly flicks.

We’re being played.

I always thought Hanks was a little too lispy and effeminate in Bosom Buddies and nothing has really dissuaded me since.

I did kinda like Castaway but that was because of Wilson.

Sounds like it might be an interesting play. But a movie?
