Golden State wait.

A California lottery fanatic claimed he hasn’t seen a dime of his Powerball jackpot winnings worth $44 million in the over two months since he matched all six numbers.

Jerry, an everyday lotto player who “plays all the games,” tried his luck at the Aug. 19 drawing.

Armed with his lucky number 10, Jerry, whose last name remained unknown, purchased a ticket at a Ralphs grocery store in southern Orange County and became the sole winner of the $44.3 million top prize.

At least until he has a chance to hide somewhere safe.

My advice, once he gets the money--move OUT of California.

You're not supposed to win. It's for the state to make money.

Powerball is a national lottery --- why would the state of CA have the right to dispense or withhold payment?

I (very) occasionally buy Powerball tickets (when I feel lucky). Should I stop, because CA can welch on me?

I suspect there's more to this story that's not being said.

He should move out of CA now, establish residency in a no-state-income tax state, and if CA drags their feet long enough, the state can’t go after his winnings with taxes - don’t know what the length of time is for CA. Unless they also have a law that if you win in CA, they steal taxes even if you aren’t a resident there.

I’m wondering if the lottery is in the same boat as a lot of the banks. Bought Bonds between 2017-2021 as insurance for funds and the bonds have fallen in value because of the interest increases since then.

“California is broke so..”

Powerball is a multi-state lottery. California does not make the payoff. Drawing is held in Florida,

“Get the state governments out of it.

License the lotteries themselves as regulated private entities. “

The state governments ARE out of it! Their only part is to pass legislation allowing the ticket sales.

The lotteries are run by a non-profit association.

“Should I stop, because CA can welch on me?”

CA has no role in the Powerball lottery except as a member of MUSL.

CA does not tax the lottery winnings.

Multi-State lottery. Payout is handled by a non-profit, not California.

The how are state agencies delaying the paymnents because “maybe” the winner owes the state somehing???

This us another example of guilty until proven innocent.

Well he has a house, that's what is behind him in the interview photo if you had bothered to actually read the article. Also you'd know Larry can't be anonymous in Kalifornia.

Larry could have gotten hundreds of thousands in 2-3 days on a HELOC and wipe the whole thing out when Kalifornia comes through.

Lots of possibilities, but there definitely seems to be a rat in the grain bin if this article is true.
