When the history of the 2024 election is written, one of the iconic images illustrating it will surely be the mug shot taken of Donald J. Trump after one of his four indictments, staring into the camera with his signature glare. It is an image not of shame but of defiance, the image of a man who would be a convicted felon before Election Day and yet possibly president of the United States again afterward.
Sometimes lost amid all the shouting of a high-octane campaign heading into its final couple of weeks is that simple if mind-bending fact. America for the first time in its history may send a criminal to the Oval Office and entrust him with the nuclear codes. What would once have been automatically disqualifying barely seems to slow Mr. Trump down in his comeback march for a second term that he says will be devoted to “retribution.”
In all the different ways that Mr. Trump has upended the traditional rules of American politics, that may be one of the most striking. He has survived more scandals than any major party presidential candidate, much less president, in the life of the republic. Not only survived but thrived. He has turned them on their head, making allegations against him into an argument for him by casting himself as a serial victim rather than a serial violator.
His persecution defense, the notion that he gets in so much trouble only because everyone is out to get him, resonates at his rallies where he says “they’re not coming after me, they’re coming after you, and I’m just standing in the way.” But that of course belies a record of scandal stretching across his 78 years starting long before politics. Whether in his personal life or his public life,...

A skunk never changes it stripes.
What does it add to the of conversation to have all these Freepers going on and on about how awful the Democrats are, when any true MAGA supporter with half a brain can see that the GOP are every bit as much a part of the destruction of the American dream and American freedoms? And that our two party system is a complete and total fake wrestling Kabuki farce.
It’s every bit as pointless, clueless, and redundant. I was one of the many fools who used to believe that the GOP was genuinely better than the Democrats. I stuck up for Bush and thought McCain would’ve been so much better than Obama.
I’m now embarrassed by it. But plenty of people here are just as shameless as the NY Times in their devotion to stale old irrelevant narratives that they can’t seem to let go of.

To equate individuals from expressing their personal opinions about democrats to an “news” organization propagandizing and lying makes no sense to me. In the one case, individuals are releasing steam in one of the few ways they can against against a party that hates the country and would love to see it destroyed. In fact, the democrats have pretty much destroyed everything they have touiched from the law, to education to politics to entertainment, you name it. On the other hand, you hae a business that lies the the American people, spins or ignores the news depending on what it is and basically pushes the Lefts agenda. So, to me there is a huge difference. The one part of your comment I agree with is that the Republicans have lied to us too and I as you don’t believe or support Republicans but do support individual Republican politicians. One thing Trump had done well and that is to expose the uniParty.
Wow. The NYT is working overtime putting out the Trump hate. I guess we can expect a whole lot more of this for the next two weeks.
“If Musk bought the NYT would he keep ANYONE?”
If Musk bought it, he should just implode it like we do old worn out resorts in Vegas.
Looks like the completely bogus “fraud” verdict is going to be thrown out - completely made up - no one filed any complaints or made any suggestion of fraud. The New York AG just started subpoenaing documents and pieced together a case she crafted out of nothing - zero fraud was found - loans were entered into by two willing parties and paid according to the loan’s terms agreed upon.
Invented case over Stormy Daniels - supposedly a criminal conspiracy because a legal payment was entered as a legal payment on an accounting ledger and not a campaign expense, event though the agreement had personal benefit to Trump regardless of any political campaign - but created a phony case alleging it was criminal because it could have also had a political benefit. Absolute nonsense...how many transactions do you engage in that could also be construed as a political benefit if you happened to be running for office at the same time?
The Federal Election Commission even said it was properly recorded.
HOW LONG BEFORE MUSK BUYS NYT & CLOSES IT ALL DOWN???
NO—HE WOULD CLOSE IT ALL DOWN.
Wow, each day they continue the drum beat of accusation after accusation and propaganda to influence they readers who are having second thoughts about voting for Trump.
I hope that Trump wins in a landslide (despite Democratic cheating) and carries the House and Senate on his coattails
Yes indeed. And testimony to that effect not allowed.
And testimony from Hope Hicks which verified he did so for personal benefit - to avoid having the story upset his family.
Too big to rig.

I think there’s only one party pretending to be two parties. And the amount of GOP politicians I would trust, I could count on one hand.
