It’s time to abolish FEMA
AMERICAN THINKER ^

When Hurricane Helene ravaged the Southeast recently, horror stories of ineptitude by federal government agencies abounded. Repeats of Lahaina and East Palestine.

Here is a proposed solution: abolish FEMA and remove the federal government from the picture

FEMA allows states to shift their responsibilities and disaster costs to the rest the rest of Americans. Very few states create rainy day funds capable of supporting damages to their states and areas. Other citizens of states from less hazard prone areas will again send resources to people who have chosen to live in areas of flooding and hurricane pathways.

As soon as elected Trump should dissolve FEMA, the CIA, NSA, and the FBI and put it all under Homeland after replacing the top 100 in Homeland. Establish a reasonable budget for homeland and hire an independent contractor to oversee their funds and report expenditures to the White House every quarter. Also, every future hire should be reviewed by the administration to ensure only sane people are hired.

And CIA, FBI, NSA, DHS, FISA, ATF for starters. Then regroup to do the others.

With the reported deaths still buried under things, and the length of time taking to establish sanitary conditions.
Expect Cholera or something to break out.
My fear at this time.

Totally agree.

I am pretty sure you haven’t got a good idea of what FEMA does when there is not a disaster going on.

While the politics of this current situation is not a good look; and the current administration is making bad choices with its involvement with the migration crap there are plenty of decent things that FEMA does behind the scenes.

Their training on Incident Command and their training centers provide important sources for local emergency management teams.

Without FEMA coming in with the big guns you would see what an absolute shit-show your state and local emergency response is likely to be. I’ve worked with good ones…but I’ve seen bad ones.

So, we should stop running around shouting at the moon until we know what we are talking about.

The really effective job of transporting essential supplies to mountainous areas with destroyed roads in NC and TN is NOT being done by the feeble, incompetent FEMA. It’s being done by Mountain Mule Packer Ranch, a private outfit packing surefooted MULES with the supplies and making their way there. And by bringing supplies to flooded areas by boat, like the Cajun Navy. These home-grown outfits are doing a far better job than the “um, um, um” FEMA, with all their excuses for not getting the job done while people suffer. And the incompetent Biden and Harris not coordinating a better effort while people suffer and die. They are pathetic, as is FEMA.

Name twelve.

Their training on Incident Command and their training centers provide important sources for local emergency management teams.

I have participated in that training. It is very impressive. I have worked as a volunteer at a real disaster site. The execution of all that training was somewhat less impressive. It could be improved.

But the evolution of FEMA into a resettlement agency for illegal immigrants ("refugees") and their public website display that "DEI" is their highest priority make it plain that this agency should be abolished. The rot is not repairable.

I saw this article while finishing off a bunch of comments on a thread I posted about FEMA issues in the hurricane.

I write a comment there, and it might as well go here for discussion also.

I would say that states have to be READY to take over for themselves. Fed taxes have to drop proportionately so the states can have that money. So there may needs to be a careful whittling of FEMA plus a phase out of some type over a fairly short time.

Here is the comment:

I agree. All States should be extremely capable at handling their own significant disasters. They can cooperate with each other is they want, like fire departments do.

The Dems are whining about Trump speculating about getting RID of FEMA!

FEMA mainly is one more unwieldy mechanism for taking away even more State power. Feds take taxes from people in states, more than they need, and then use “programs” like FEMA to BRIBE the states. We took your citizen’s emergency funds, now you have a lot less for emergencies, so you have to do our program if you want to get those funds to be used.

And you must do it the way we want. And we will monitor you. And get unionized Fed employees to want our program and vote for Dems who like it too.

Sigh.

In Kamala and her Commie friends case, the FEMA money is not to help handle disasters, but to “advance equity” which of course ends up meaning communism anyway, as is the case with everything she says.

And to max Fed control, as above.

A State can be GENIUS at being ready for anything.

States are as big and powerful as many COUNTRIES.

If Canada with 37 million people can be 100% sovereign (maybe bad example, their gov seems to be getting awful), then why can Calif, Texas, NT, Fla, and really every state be almost sovereign, as was intended? The dictator types would miss their playground.

So let’s have redundant and genius State level disaster capability, local resources for it. That will also take one more of the 999+ expensive and unwieldy Federal Bureaucracy Pacifiers away, giving it back to the individual States.

The private sector (for and non-profit) could do this more efficiently, i.e. cheaper, faster, better customer care...

Eliminating FEMA could expose other agencies that don't work like Head Start.

BWAAAAAHAHAHAhahahaha.

*Ahem*, but it's not so funny: The coincidence of headstarts being overwhelmingly spanish language (I know, at least here) and learning of fema's ledger sleight-of-hand exposes a much deeper problem at DHS.

I say dump DHS upside down and start over. That includes all of the agencies rolled into it under the idiot gwb, including fema.

Each state should have their version of FEMA.

https://www.usa.gov/state-emergency-management

State emergency management agencies | USAGov

Contact your state's emergency management agency for help preparing for dangerous weather and evacuation, find disaster-related aid, and more.

Most everything the fedgov does is duplicated at the state level. FEMA? yep. EPA? yep, states do it.

I think the concept of a federal response to genuine large area disasters is a valid one. But not in keeping an all-controlling staff 24/7/365. The response should be mainly providing MONEY and direction to national guard and/or active duty military assistance to the states’ EMAs under their respective direction.

Free Republic is turning into FEMA. I have asked OVER and OVER to SPMEONE to set up a ‘Flood Aftermath’ thread as a clearing house for all things flood: a place where EVERYONE can go to find testimonials, ways to help, videos, and as it stands now. KEEP EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE FOR EASY ACCESS...is there ONE FREEPER that can help???

”Other citizens of states from less hazard prone areas will again send resources to people who have chosen to live in areas of flooding and hurricane pathways.”

I don’t know where you live, but I think you do not understand what has just happened to western North Carolina. Allow me to enlighten you.

(1) Literally no one calls the Blue Ridge Mountains an expected “hurricane pathway”. And knowing the “high” ground is the place to be when floods come, the people up here never expected this kind of flood devastation.

(2) Folks up in these mountains are, in many cases, descendants of the early settlers to our country who have lived here for generations. They have never know flooding and unbelievable water power sweeping away their homes and businesses such as just happened.

What state or region, pray tell, would you suggest is immune to natural disasters? Name them and we can point out times they too have been hit by something (a tornado, a severe drought, insects destroying all the crops, wildfire, winter storm, Tsunami, earthquake) would you also denigrate people who choose to live in places these disasters have happened?
