I think many of us come here for some fellowship with like minded conservative allies and it makes us happy to see that we are not alone.
But, over the years I have noticed something that seems amiss to me, which is the lack of responses to people who have expressed their opinion.
Many is the time that I see a comment to which no one has replied; a situation in which no one responds to a Freeper who has expressed an opinion.
I think most, if not all of us, would likely enjoy an acknowledgement that people have read our comment and agree with it, or even that people have read it and disagree with it! (So that we can have an argument, which is something we contrarians tend to enjoy! :) )
I urge people to respond to comments from other Freepers, especially if that comment is directed at you. I encourage Freepers to acknowledge the people who have posted a message to you, because we all want to believe our opinions matter and are worthy of consideration.
At the very least give them a "+1" (which means "UpVote") to indicate you've read their comment and agree with it. A more thoughtful reply is even better!
Let people know you care what they think and are not indifferent to their existence.
Not only should this boost the amount of traffic on Free Republic, it should encourage a happier more pleasant experience for all participants. It may even lead to more people wanting to join Free Republic!
And admit when factually in error
People don't like bitter pills. :)
Some here simply refuse that one despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary
I am often amazed at how people can look at the same piece of information and come away with radically different interpretations of what it means.
Agree. Seems as of late, FReepers are stressed, on edge, and a bit too eager to lash out. Or... as you’ve said, do not bother even acknowledging others.
We have to keep the community going. We’re on the same team.
I think we are all on the same side, we all just engage in the usual sibling squabbling.
Getting the usual performative morality over the original sins of anything race from non southerners ,
This is how I have come to view some of what I have seen relating to the Civil War.
As Pelham pointed out to me, it does seem to be some sort of "A Disease in the Public Mind."
My slogan,
“Don’t bother to flame me (respond) because I don’t read responses. More importantly, I don’t care what you think.”
I could care less if anyone responds. I post for my own enjoyment. If some of you laugh or find them insightful, GOOD FOR YOU! Not ME.
I don’t need (covet) your attention.
Your post sounds a little to much like “Can’t we all get along” nonsense.
“You would think that after all these years FR would add a ‘like’ button”
Please, no, because I want responses a post to give the responder’s reasoning related to the post.
I have no complaints with this board ... except maybe:
It’s frustrating when the text excerpt from a given posted article doesn’t answer the headline, making it’s necessary to go into the article which seldom has the answer near the front.
I’m always in a hurry.
Freepers can be very cruel
Also Kind. I encourage them to be Kind.
I've seen a lot of prayers offered up for people going through some misfortune. There are "salt of the earth" people here.
Not me. I find it unpleasant. People should believe what they believe for reasons that make sense to them, not because they think it will raise their social stature in the eyes of others.
Lord knows if I cared about social status, I would stay away from most of the topics I like to discuss! :)
That's true, but for me, most of the time I am. My whole family is a bunch of contrarians. They don't know what they think until they find out what *YOU* think, so they can pick the opposite side and argue with you about it!
Makes Thanksgiving dinners pretty entertaining sometimes. :)
A simple thumbs up or thanks is always cool!😀
The way to deal with it is to ignore it.
Turn the other cheek? Seems like someone important said that way back when.
That way, if I get hit by a bus, someone here might notice my absence and ask “Why is TheRum gone?”
That's thinking ahead. People should always leave a joke behind to comfort their family when they pass on.
I've told my kids I want to be buried in my Beetlejuice costume. Imagine how funny it would be if they ever dig me up!
Not exactly. I’m suggesting ignoring them altogether. Most people who express themselves that way are smartasses looking for attention. Don’t give them any.
We have to keep the community going. We’re on the same team.
Yup. Even if we disagree about less important issues. As Reagan said, "A man who is 80% on your side is not your enemy."
Nope, and nope.
People don't like pomposity, so I try to make up for it by being sillier than I should be from time to time.
Yep, and not necessary, however humor almost always helps.
Obviously you are earnest, (not Earnest) so I will propose that in answer to your #1: some FReepers will not answer because they do not have the specific information or expertise to post a helpful reply (I exclude prayer requests from this comment).
While no longer available on FR...from 2002...
+1
LOL.

LOL! I remember when those were going around.
