The 'horrific' reason fentanyl deaths are going down (running out of people to kill)
Daily Mail ^ | 10/01/24 | Emily Joshu

Deaths from fentanyl appear to be going down for the first time in a decade after reaching astronomic levels - but experts warn there's a 'horrific' reason behind it.

They say the drug is simply running out of people to kill, after claiming the lives of around 320,000 Americans in the last decade.

Last year, around 75,000 people in the US were killed by the lethally potent drug, which was slightly down on the previous year and the first time deaths have fallen annually since 2011.

Dr Caleb Banta-Green, an addiction expert at the University of Washington, says King County, which includes Seattle, is like a microcosm for the rest of the country.

Deaths from fentanyl there plummeted nearly 10 percent at the end of 2023 compared to the last quarter - but Dr Banta-Green believes the outbreak is 'self-extinguishing'.

He told local news station KUOW: 'There are only so many people who are using a drug, and when it has that high of a lethality rate, it will eventually — in a really horrific way — start to self-extinguish itself like a forest fire.

'So, it's literally burning out the fuel. The horrible thing in this instance is the fuel is people.'

I agree. I think the dangers of fentanyl has become more widely known, and the fear of it is why the death rate is down, along with narcan.

“That is not true at all.

Weed is rampant in our society. Conservatives as well as leftists.”

Weed doesn’t kill as fast as hard drugs do, it doesn’t kill from the drug it’s self, it kills from the smoke inhalation just like cigarettes. I know, or I would have been long dead back in the 70s. Anything other about weed is a moral religious myth and stygma. Believe it or not there is not known TOXIC level of LSD that can cause overdose death either.

But most other hard street drugs can kill you if you overdose. Let them use these and overdose. Good riddance. Just because they are immoral it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a silver lining good for the betterment of society in general. Survival of the mentally fittest.

America is being preyed upon like the Europeans preyed upon China during the Opium Wars of the 19th century - subjugated, colonized and enslaved by foreign invaders.

Legalizing everything with no Gubbmint controls has been my position since I spent 18 months on a Feral Grand Jury back in 2014-2015.

Everyone dealers, cops, lawyers make tons of money with exactly nothing changing.

Same difference, weeding out the mentally unfit. If they allow themselves to be brainwashed then they are also mentally unfit. Couple generations and the whole abuse concept will disappear. Both the teachers and the students. Only those who have the mental strength to say no will survive going forward.

I don’t care a whit about drug users.
I do care about those who unknowingly take the drug.
Like children when it’s hidden in candy.

This is a nice fact check on Tampon Tim’s claim during the debate that the Harris administration is responsible for the decline in fentanyl deaths last year.

I thought it might be due to a horrendously high death count the year before.

Drug users are like free climbers who do sheer cliffs.

There’s always going to be a group who will do it and you can’t stop them.

Over time, some of them die and the survivors quit doing it.

Just super relax property defense laws so people can protect their castle.

Hard drug abuse, like abortion, is a self-correcting problem.

Both remove users from the gene pool.

We could try not letting us get our knickers in a twist.

Here is a perspective. A lot of our species got extremely sick or died over a span of thousands of years trying to discover what plants were edible or poisonous. Same thing needs to happen here. Let those who are stupid enough to keep using poison to kill themselves and let those around them observe and learn from their example what is poisonous or not.

Kids never slow down with their driving until a few direct classmates are killed driving stupid.

And making drugs illegal makes them expensive.

Which means there is a high profit margin for illegal activity.

So, more illegal = more drug cartels = more crime.

Exactly right. And when there are no more customers left the problems will fix themselves and become extinct. Let them defeat themselves.

Several problems:

  1. For every addict who dies, 1000 take their place.

  2. Addiction does not discriminate. Sometimes extremely skilled and very useful people slip into addiction.
