Major League Baseball legend Pete Rose has died at the age of 83, the medical examiner in Clark County, Nevada, confirmed.
A walking advertisement for baseball. Forgive him? I say no.
Of all of the dozens of legends and celebrity level talent I’ve worked with, there were only 3 azzholes - He was a-hole #1, by far. Yet, he had many fans who have gushed over meeting him, so I guess he had his good weeks. My first thought on hearing this was “suicide??”.
NO NO NO to Pete Rose in the HOF
1. He bet on baseball and specifically on his team
2. On Aug. 24, 1989, Rose officially signed an agreement with Giamatti declaring him permanently ineligible from baseball. In exchange, there was no formal declaration made whether Rose bet on baseball.
3. Longtime teammate Johnny Bench says, “He should not be in the HOF.”
He is a great great player!
” I had the pleasure of watching Pete Rose play. Rip to one of the GOAT.”
So did I . It was Seaver’s first time pitching at Shea Stadium after being traded to the Reds . Reds won . Had box seats on the 3rd base line - a gift from someone . Took a work buddy with me .
Amen
Best comprehensive player ever
He inspired all us boys to get it down
Man it just sucks
Everyone is dying and gonna get worse
David Gilmour for the that tone
We’re in line too
That's good to hear these stories. Had to work with him, once, and he was a true jerk that week at his little shop. Something must have been going on with him.
Was different as a player than a manager. All the personal stuff changed him. Just a wonderful man and a great ballplayer. 1976 Reds forever.
If he was an African American he would be in the Hall of Fame.
My Dad (RIP) was an avid baseball fan. Pete Rose and Johnny Bench were two of his favorites. In fact, he liked Bench so much I think Bench was the son my father wished he'd had. Instead of me. Bench and I are the same age. Baseball does strange things to normally rational people.
Pete and Johnny were legends.
I used to ru into Catchers in Litte Leauge because of him.🤣🤣. Wasn’t a great talent, but I played the game Rose did.
Memory Eternal!
And, there is nothing he did to taint his record as a player, unlike those that used steroids.
I didn't object to banning from employment in baseball because he couldn't be trusted not to gamble.
The man belongs in the HoF - a great pity he won’t live to see it.
And it’s not that your heroes from sports, TV, movies and music are dying but your world - the world you once knew - is shrinking.
Sucks.
You can bet on that.
He is by far my favorite player I ever saw in my lifetime. I am a Braves fan, but he made the Reds my 2nd favorite team.
Bench should have kept his mouth shut.Great catcher but NOBODY put as much effort as Pete.
Pete Rose WAS Cincinnati baseball.
And the various HOFs all play politics be it music or sports.
What I heard was Pete always bet on the Reds to win.
Saw him in person once at the store where I worked in the 70s.Acted like an ordinary customer.
The first thing I thought of when I read the excerpt was, "Las Vegas is in Clark County, Nevada."
What’s his over/under???
