I have been told this for a long long time.
Because I met my husband as an 18 year old, I actually thought they were all as gifted as he is. It took me till having kids in grade school with friends whose husbands were also engineers to see the difference.
My husband is one of a kind. Mama told me I might have to kiss a lot of frogs before I met my handsome Prince, and I’m so glad I didn’t have to kiss that many frogs…just several.

I’m left handed. There were teachers who tried to make me feel bad about using my left hand. The hardest part was writing with a fountain pen which I had to do up through 8th grade. My left hand was stained for a couple of years after that. I was allowed to use my left hand but the teacher insisted on looking out and seeing all of us with our pages tilted the same way. It was my great grandfather who was left handed. You could tell from a photo we had of him and how he had his gun and his whip. He drove cattle as a young man from Texas up to the railheads in central Kansas. He was also red headed and that didn’t show up until my children and niece and nephews. All red headed except one of my sons.

A friend of mine went to Catholic school and the nuns told her that her left-handedness meant she was possessed by the devil. This was in the 1950s.

My clan has one certifiable genius (not me, as you may have guessed). A phenomenal IQ, plus numerous peculiar talents (memory, spelling/writing/talking backwards, reading upside down, etc.) Our brainiac is the only southpaw in the bunch. Coincidence? Hmm.

That's true of mixed race people also, due to a widening of the bell curve. Unmentioned is the overrepresentation of people that end up on the left side of the curve.

Yes, but don’t turn your palm towards you. Just look at your hands as you hold them out in front of you. Stick your thumb out on both hands. The L shape is on the left. I taught this to my kids when they were learning left from right. It’s easy and works if you don’t try to make it hard. Apply the KISS rule. Keep it simple, silly.
