If $$$ is a persons prime focus, let them have no kids - the kids are better off not being with adults like that.
People are free to choose childlessness. But this means that they have resigned from the project of building the future. They will live ultimately for themselves, finding their validation as worker drones and consumers. Their credit card companies won’t send anyone to their funerals.
Our grandkids,grand nieces and nephews have good degrees and jobs, are like semi cat people with no cats and an occasional dog.
Some are getting master degrees and even PHds!
Even the married ones have no children.
My wife, who was a great RN for 5+ decades before she retired is concerned we have reared successful yet childless

Of my closest friends’ children:
4 kids - 2 with 2 grandchildren each/2 without
3 kids - 1 with 2 grandchildren/2 without
2 kids - no grandchildren
1 kid - no grandchildren
0 kids - no grandchildren
0 kids - no grandchildren
Definitely seeing fewer children in the latest generation.

It would be a very empty and lonely feeling to be in ill health and an advanced age and not have any children, IMO. Even in good health I think the ‘empty and lonely’ part would still be there.
I think the Chinese call the childless “empty vessels”.
