An ambitious effort to understand the Earth’s climate over the past 485 million years has revealed a history of wild shifts and far hotter temperatures than scientists previously realized — offering a reminder of how much change the planet has already endured and a warning about the unprecedented rate of warming caused by humans.

The timeline, published Thursday in the journal Science, is the most rigorous reconstruction of Earth’s past temperatures ever produced, the authors say. Created by combining more than 150,000 pieces of fossil evidence with state-of-the-art climate models, it shows the intimate link between carbon dioxide and global temperatures and reveals that the world was in a much warmer state for most of the history of complex animal life.

They just can’t help themselves. Even though in the previous sentence they state what massive upheavals “Mother Erf” has done all by herself to herself, they still have the gall to try to scare people about the non-existing “unprecedented human warming”.

Also note the verbiage they use “...the planet has already ENDURED”. The planet doesn’t ENDURE anything. It’s what it is - it doesn’t have feeling.

What I resent is having to endure idiots that write this tripe!

And that’s the key phrase right there. Data is data. But a model can be set up to give you whatever result you want.

Set a normalization factor to 0.90, and you’ll get one result.
Set it to 0.85, and you can get a completely different result.

Moving glaciers leave traces in the geological record (morraine).

We’ve had 25% of the time of the past 500 million years in ice age conditions (including today).

That means 75% of the time, it’s generally warmer.

Since that’s the majority, you could only conclude that warmer is normal.

There is a heck of a lot we don’t understand about Earth’s climatic history.

One video I watched the other day indicated soaring methane levels presumably from natural causes as animal contributions already factored in.

Then if we look at the last interglacial between 130K and 110K years ago they believe the Earth was much hotter and the seas were 25-30 feet higher yet CO2 levels were 280 ppm (current levels 420 ppm).

One thing we know is that man will have to deal with changing and extreme climatic conditions. Enjoy it now while we can.
