Counting Down my iTunes Play Count (VANITY) -- Day #14
AC’s iTunes Directory | 9/3/2024 | Alberta's Child

Posted on 09/03/2024 12:13:18 PM PDT by Alberta's Child

Day #14 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I'm posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the next couple of months. I only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so it will take at least ten weeks to do this.

And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making a contribution for the current AND next quarterly fundraisers. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)

Have fun with this, folks!

Pinging to those from the previous threads. I honestly thought this one would have been higher on the list, since it seems like I listen to it all the time!

Let me know if you’d like to be added or removed from the ping list!

It’s a great song. Mark Knopfler has a very unique style, both in picking and strumming. He’s got a lot of great songs a few of which became top hits but some deep cuts from Dire Straits albums are also great listens. They may seem a little underrated here in the USA despite the popularity of maybe 2 hit songs that got a lot of airplay, but in the UK they could sell out Wembley stadium back in the day.

Mark Knopfler is well-represented on my list.

We too have a very large Itunes library.

However, don't forget to convert them music files to mp3. It will allow you to decouple your huge investment in Itunes music from Apple and Apple only products such as Iphones.

We have done this and it has opened our ability to play our entire library in our car and on a simple thumb drive.

I do appreciate that Apple enabled this feature. It is in the menu, just look for it. Thank you Apple.

Very good bit of advice. Most of my songs are old enough that they are already MP3s.

"Sultans of Swing" has one of the best guitar licks in all of rock and roll.

Also, just noticed your first (or last?) choice of "Solsbury Hill" which is one of the few top hits to have a 7/4 signature.

Also, not that we are going to pull the Napster on Apple.

Apple devices can be really well designed and desirable.

But some of us prefer other options and MP3 is an old standard. My linux computer recognizes MP3.

And when your expensive Iphone gives up the ghost, you can't play the music. Well, not as easily. You can still download the Itunes program on your MS computer and run it that way. However, that program seems to be a major resource hog.

I am a huge Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler fan. If I had a list this would be on it, plus many more like “Brothers in Arms”. I never saw them in concert which I regret.

The Privateering album is a masterpiece.

I hope he collaborates with Sting (I don’t like the silly names) for something like Sting’s “The Last Ship” rock opera.

WOW.

As a musician.... I can’t explain anything outside 2/4 or 6/8. I just say.... “It is what it is.”

I’m not a huge Dire Straits fan but I have a few favorites in my playlist. “Skateaway” is one that would be in my second tier of good tunes.

Try “Brothers in Arms”.

Personal favorite of mine for very significant reasons.
