We all know the government ruins everything it touches. This includes science and even basic nutrition. For years, it's pushed the food pyramid -- carb heavy -- despite lots of research that shows meat and protein are very healthy and beneficial.

So it's not a surprise that a study from Tufts University -- funding by the NIH -- shows that Cheerios and Lucky Charms are healthier than beef and eggs.

My mom fixed me hot shredded wheat: pour boiling water over a shredded wheat bisque, press out the water, ad butter. I make it to this day. My wife and kids won’t go near it I think it was a dish during the Depression.

I’m 70, and will survive.

In my middle age, I’m a “Low Sugar” oatmeal eater for breakfast when I’m working. Eggs and Bacon on my days off.

If you buy most cereal isle products, the most healthy and nourishing thing you can do is take the box home, throw out the contents, and eat the box.

I used to eat full sugar maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal and two packets of it at 12 grams of sugar per packet. I’m now on the “Low Sugar” oatmeal at 4 grams of sugar per packet. So I went from 24 grams of sugar, to 8 grams of sugar.

For breakfast this morning I ate a large omelet made with 2 eggs, 2 slices of cheese, generous amounts of beef steak, onions, green, yellow and red peppers. I also had a couple slices of buttered sourdough bread washed down with a large glass of nonfat milk.

Yesterday, I made Belgian waffles and a generous amount of bacon. But at other times I often eat the standard variety of Cheerios, they do not contain a lot of sugar and they can be a part of a healthy meal. Your body and your brain are powered by carbohydrates not protein and fat. Refined products are obviously not as nutritious as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, meats, fish and dairy products. But the lack of nutrients by comparison does not automatically make refined products “unhealthy” to eat.

The human digestion system is far more complicated than commonly understood. The gut biome is much more important to overall health than is commonly acknowledged. Cutting out complete food groups as is suggested by many in this forum typically results in a less diverse and healthy gut biome. I have known countless people who believe in nutritional nonsense and nearly all have eventually suffered from health issues sometimes very serious.

The human body is amazing in so many ways including being able to survive less than optimal dietary choices. Genetics often make a huge difference in what can be consumed without serious consequences. Just because one person can live on nothing but meat for months at a time does not guarantee eating the same diet will work out well for others.

That’s why I have cereal, eggs, and meat for breakfast, combined with heavy weightlifting. Filling up my muscle glycogen with the carbs from the cereal, prior to weightlifting, then rebuilding the muscle with the protein and fats.

Nonfat frozen chocolate yogurt??????

It sounds horrible.

I wish Lucky Charms were so good for you. I really do like them. Many of the other breakfast cereals, not so much.

Surprisingly, I liked shredded wheat.

I like Cheerios, but don’t eat them that often because having Type II diabetes, they raise my blood sugar level more than two slices of bacon, one egg, and one slice of toast. I use Splenda on my Cheerios, and in the two cups of coffee I limit myself to each day. Bagels are bad too for blood sugar, so I limit their intake was well.

But the lack of nutrients by comparison does not automatically make refined products “unhealthy” to eat.

It does if you eat enough of them.

Additionally, it's a waste of time.

"Cheerios is not loaded with sugar. 1 gm per 28."

A cup of Cheerios is loaded with 73% carbs, which turn into sugar.

Hold on . . .

THIS 76 year old sat in front of 1950's and 60's TV with Puffies n' Cheerios, n' Raisin Bran . . . . .

.... and we learned to read and do crafts because of the boxe4s.

Hell, I even remember getting a 45 RPM record we cut it out and poked a hole in and it actually played . . . . I forget what, but that's a true story.

I think it’s bogus, but Cheerios only have 1 gram of sugar.
