The MONTHLY Gardening Thread is a gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to/removed from our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a MONTH Ping List, but we DO post to the thread all throughout the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Sorry I missed this! So HAPPY to hear it! One step closer! :)

Holy moley, that looks like something from a “Mysterious Creatures of the Deep Sea” nature channel program!
Ahhh, yes, the fatigue from moving! I get that!
That’s about what it looks like here. Wet leaves everywhere! A few downed branches, but not too bad. Rain will continue today, and that’s fine with me, as long as I can watch college football.
Yikes! Future world! Leaves and snow flakes falling! (And your GIF manages to make it all homey and cozy!)
(I will leaf it at that!)
Rutting in a thrift store? Is that what you and Beau do for kicks?
This is just a recap of how we got rid of all fox squirrels. They are real pigs. We are in the woods and had been inundated for years, especially irks us how they get at the bird feeder. It was someone on FR as I recall that had a solution. 2019 was the year. We took a white 10 gallon bucket, filled it halfway with water. Floated striped sunflower seeds on the top, a few cups worth. It has to be the striped because they will float. We put it next to the woodshed where there were firewood end sticking out. The squirrels have to have something to climb on and they look down and see the seeds and then its all over. Seriously we got 5 or 6 a week, Bought some tongs just to hang in the woodshed. We had to check it every day and fish them out. We never got more then one a day, a few days we would get a squirrel and a chipmunk. Living on a steep hill in the woods is a plus cause we can just pitch them over the side. Our foster daughter and her husband were visiting that summer, they live in Belarus. He called it a “protein trap”. After that one summer and fall we saw no more fox squirrels until this year, we have one. What did happen after the fox squirrels were gone is we had many black squirrels move in. They are just fine, they don’t come near the house and not interested in the bird feeder. The 10 gallon bucket thing works with mice in the barn too. Use it dry and just set it up next to a 2X4 stud. You can put some bait in there or not. Mice go down but they can’t climb out. It did get pretty disgusting after a week and there were dozens in there and cannibalism, well, you know. Stinky too. We only did it once.
This past week in Central Missouri was cool and damp for the most part. We got another 1.5” or so of rainfall.
Nothing going on in the garden aside from cleanup. I was hoping to haul horse poo from the neighbor lady’s horse stable but it’s too wet for that so I’ll just putz about around here picking up and putting away.
Weighed a few of the bigger ones. This was the heaviest and 5" long.
Roll up tight in the bag. Every time you open it until they are gone the aroma is amazing.
I like ALL kinds of weather as long as I’m not out in it doing barn/animal chores, LOL!
LOL! Ok, how about ‘Rummaging?’
Sorry, I live with a HUNTER - you end up picking up the vernacular! ;)
Bear Camp 2024: 4 bears down in WI so far, 1 down in the UP of MI.
I’m in ‘glean-up’ and ‘clean-up’ mode, too - though I picked a nice mess of green beans this morning and found a few bell peppers that the puppies didn’t find first!
Wishing two things: That the two remaining puppies were a bit older and LESS interested in my greenhouse and that the Box Elder Bugs were ALSO less interested in my greenhouse! Ugh! They are everywhere right now!
I HATE to wish my life away but, Hurry First Hard Freeze! October 15th is usually ours.
You are in Paw Paw Heaven these days! :)
A-MAZ-ING!!!
Good Afternoon! :-)
It's Unitronics V120(industrial stuff) that I got used from ebay and it had been rebranded by Unitronics for some Aquafine Corporation. Aqua - watering - works for me. I manually hooked up the pump a few days ago and forgot about ti for two hours. This will fix that.

No solar panel hooked up yet. Heading out to start digging a post hole for it. Will have to grab a 10 foot 4x4 from Ace tomorrow and get er done.

Hooked it up to the charge controller while dirty, in the tunnel with plastic film in between it and the sky, cloudy day, aiming SE while the sun behind the clouds was NW and still got 13.1 volts coming from it.
Clean it up and at 11am to 2pm it will hit 14+ volts. That'll do for now.
On the way Friday I remembered that you lived somewhere near Columbia or Jeff City and I was trying to remember your exit as I passed by but could not recall if it was off I-70 or down by Jefferson City. (Exit 127??) It was raining most of the way back last Sunday.
Anyway, it was a good time and we were on the South Bank bluff of the MO River and had a good view to the north and south. There is a lot of vertical acreage in that town! Good German food and beer at the restaurant. (Some bottled wine came home with Mrs. Pete.)
