“Oh,help yourself. DO read all the books here....IF you Dare!!”.... followed by maniacal Vincent Price type angry laughter.

Calm down.

Unless you are licking the pages you will be fine.

“These old books with toxic dyes may be in universities, public libraries and private collections”

The Victorian books themselves are fine. It's their contents that are poisonous.

If the book, painting or wall paper is over 100 years old and still brightly colored, don not lick it.

They certainly can’t be touting this as a “new discovery” can they? I remember hearing, reading, seeing something about like this years ago.

One error: Napoleon died on the island of Saint Helena, not Elba.

I own dozens of such history, medical, school, and military books from that era, even a couple of sets of encyclopedias.

First step in declaring old books off-limits. This is how it starts. Similar argument to physical cash being dangerous because it passes germs.

“the researchers plan to present a new technique,”

Because wearing gloves is not good enough? I think you may have dug up another funding scam Badger. I see a business opportunity. Become a third party service to search the world for any small justification to apply for funding and charge a finder’s fee. Could probably find hidden nuggets they haven’t thought of yet. Just subcontract to these organizations and fast track these funding scams for them.

Some books are toxic based on content alone. Take Ulysses, for example.

I’ve got a number of books this old that I read periodically.

Not dead yet.

Go figure.

Fauci must be behind this. Either wear masks, or burn/ban books.

“Though the books are old, their poisonous substances can still pose serious risks if the cloth covers rub against a reader’s skin or if the toxins become airborne.”
