His disdain is palpable. Singapore's history taught its leaders early that hardcore rule of law and equality of opportunity, not equality of results, was the way to succeed.
Elon Musk spotted this video on X (Twitter) featuring Lee Hsien Loong, the recently retired prime minister of Singapore, and couldn't help sharing:

Wisdom is a good word for it, because left unsaid, it's also about experience.
Who is Lee Hsien Loong? He's the senior, or emeritus, prime minister of Singapore, the third in the nation's history, and the son of Singapore's founding father, the great Lee Kuan Yew. Suffice to say, he had a wise father to start.
But he had his own achievements, and on his watch, from 2004-2024, Singapore seriously prospered -- see here:

I lived in Singapore from 1996 to 1998 before he became prime minister, and it was plenty prosperous then.
It's now four times wealthier.

Compare the Singapore airport to the USA dumps: LAX, Laguardia, Dulles.
Compare the crime rate. I am willing to bet the streets of Singapore are spotless and don’t smell of weed and urine.
That is correct.
I spent a fair amount of time in Singapore on business between the mid ‘70s and early 2000s. My favorite foreign destination.
Remember when they caught an American boy spraying graffiti on buildings, I believe? The uproar over his sentence of being “caned”? An embarassment to all of the US, when people jumped onto this punks side and claimed it was cruel. Guess what? No graffiti, and a safe and ordered society. I bet he is still alive, and no worse for the wear....... stay tuned......
I guess once a punk, always a punk. He probably was treated like a hero once he was back to his padded and protected life.
Singapore should be denounced as the authoritarian totalitarian state that it is. But there was a thread a few months back where FReepers generally agreed it would be better to live in Singapore than New York City.
“Singapore’s prime minister emeritus stares at ‘woke’ concepts in America, utterly stupefied at its idiocy”
Him and a couple hundred million Americans.
I know. Singapore is a “FINE” place. I have only been through the airport a few times. They had good beer.
Don’t do drugs, don’t traffic drugs, don’t break the laws or you will pay. I can dig it, now the hard part is writing reasonable laws. I for one believe, the death penalty for drugs is reasonable. Also, caning for vandalism. No street takeovers, demonstators pick up after themselves. HEY, just like MAGA people do already.. with the cleaning up....
Singapore's prime minister emeritus stares at 'woke' concepts in America, utterly stupefied at its idiocy
Anyone with a brain is utterly stupefied at its idiocy.
I think I am ready to have the trains run on time.
The Singaporean Way
Can you imagine what this country would be like the Singaporean Way??
I remember it. The MSM did an ambush interview with their ambassador saying how primitive the punishment was, he laughed at them and said their embassy was receiving support letters from Americans running 100 to 1.
Join the club buddy, most of us are stunned by the idiocy as well.
My ship visited a couple of times in the late 70s/early 80s. I enjoyed the heck out of it. One night a cab driver would not take us back to the ship I think because he didn’t want to have to come back empty. We argued, and I got out and slammed the door. The driver jumped out and said he was going to get the police. I realized where I was and all the fight left me in one second because I knew what could happen. I apologized about 500 times. The police do not play in Singapore. He did not pursue it.
You can get caned over there for spitting chewing gum onto the sidewalk.
