A mother of eight children was brutally executed after she confronted drug dealers in Oakland, California who were reportedly selling weed to her kids. Maria Ramos, 33, was shot and killed in the city after she confronted the teenage drug dealers.
Maria Ramos was visiting her mother, Blanca Velasco, with her children on Aug. 7 when the dealers sold pot pipes to two of Ramos’ children, the Daily Mail reports. Ramos and Velasco then pursued the teens by car to confront the vehicle occupied by the dealers in order to confront them

Police have identified three suspects in the suspected murder: two are minors and the third is 19-year-old Isaiah Gomez. They have been brought into custody. Police believe that Ramos was the victim of a 16-year-old shooter who has been remanded to Alameda County Juvenile Hall. Gomez has been released on his own recognizance after pleading not guilty and is wearing an ankle monitor.
Surveillance footage detailed how the mother caught up to the drug dealers’ car and Ramos exited through the passenger side. The occupants of the other vehicle began shooting at her as the woman attempted to get away from the gunfire. It is under investigation as to if she used pepper spray in the confrontation.
“I just saw her taking off and I just heard the bang,” Velasco told reporters. “And then I pressed on the gas to put my car in front of their car to shield my daughter,” she added. “I saw my daughter going down, but I thought my daughter was taking cover.”
Velasco saw a teenage boy in the backseat of the Toyota pointing a gun at her and she decided to get away quickly, speeding ahead of the other car before finally losing it on the road. When she went back to the scene, she found Ramos crumpled on the street, lying in her own blood. “I left my car there, I ran to her. I was holding her in my arms,” Velasco said.
“I just saw all the blood coming out and I started rubbing her and I told her, ‘Breathe. We still need you. You have eight kids that still need you.’ She just started breathing from her nose and was going slowly, and that's when police showed up.” Oakland police delivered emergency first-aid with no success. Ramos was pronounced dead from at least one gunshot wound.

You don’t take mace to a gunfight. Especially one you are outnumbered. She was out of her league. The common civilian is highly unprepared to confront drug dealers especially in a city like Oakland. Better off with a RPG or a grenade. And the same people that sold the drugs probably have those for sale on the next corner.

She would have been better trying to control her own kids use of drugs than going after the drug dealers.

I spent much of the covid lockdown year 2020 in an area frequented by the homeless. I was struck by how many times I heard that a parent or significant other had died violently, or by suicide. With at least two of her kids already drug-involved, this incident, and who-knows-how-many like it, will reverberate through the years.
