The decline in electric vehicle sales is “very worrying” from a climate perspective, an expert has said.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that 12,765 EVs were licensed in Ireland between January and July of this year, a decline of nearly 25% compared with the same period last year. The total number of EVs on Irish roads is now around 125,000. However, the target outlined in the Government’s Climate Action Plan is to have 845,000 electric vehicles by 2030.

Professor of Transportation at Trinity College Brian Caulfield said that trend is “very worrying” as the country has to “hit these targets, and we’re very far behind now”.

”EVs are most probably the most impactful part of the Climate Action Plan when it comes to transport. 58% of the emissions that we’re going to take out of the transport sector are to come from improving our vehicles, that’s not only private electric vehicles, it’s also buses and heavy goods vehicles,” he said. …

Brian Caulfield makes Holden Caulfield seem tolerable.

I hated having to read "Catcher in the Rye." Holden Caulfield was an insufferable pus-head. The only thing more painful to read was "Death of a Salesman." It was the written equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard.

It's safe to say that I did not enjoy my HS English classes.

I read it too, but not as part of class curriculum thankfully. The character’s angst is so exaggerated it seems comical to me now.

Yeah, and I’m sure that fires like the Mercedes in Korea that burned and took 8 hours to put out and damaged other cars is so much better for the environment.

I wonder how many gas powered vehicles worth of emissions that fire produced, not to mention the firetruck and services that were used in running the truck, transporting and caring for the injured in the hospital, the damage done to other vehicles that need to be replaced and/or repaired, and clean up in the after math.

In hot zones, like Arizona, heat radiates up from the pavement and speeds up battery degradation

In cold climates, the batteries may not take a charge. Further, the batteries with return less range.

Get a bleeding ulcer from worry.

Decline in Explosive Vehicles is the best thing for the environment. Provable using real science.

most EV purchases were made by virtue-signalers and fools ... they make zero economic sense when total costs (including resale value) vs their limited utility is rationally considered ... still, the virtue-signalers and fools found all of that out the hard way, and MOST won’t be doing it again ... thus end of the EV nonsense ...

To be fair, reading the supposedly popular crap titles made me appreciate Shakespeare, Dickens, Dumas, and even Voltaire and Jonathan Swift.

In hot zones,…
In cold climates,….

Yup….although I would likely drive a Tesla if you gave me one because I appreciate Elon Musk. But I would not park near the house…..

We homeschooled our kids, so we learned a lot about literature. 20th century material tends to be more bleak and dystopian.

Yep, it’s so bad even regular mechanics can’t work on these machines without upgrading their shop.
My older cousin refused to work on any vehicle made be 1997, IIRC. because he didn’t want the expense and hassle of working with computers.
And he was a great mechanic!

Learned this with lithium batteries in my GoPro cameras as I was getting time lapse wildlife pictures and had a time of it when the weather went to extremes.
That was just fun and games, I don’t want my life to depend on these things.

Let’s end all of the subsidies to electric vehicles, and see how they do in the real world.
