The decline in electric vehicle sales is “very worrying” from a climate perspective, an expert has said.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that 12,765 EVs were licensed in Ireland between January and July of this year, a decline of nearly 25% compared with the same period last year. The total number of EVs on Irish roads is now around 125,000. However, the target outlined in the Government’s Climate Action Plan is to have 845,000 electric vehicles by 2030.
Professor of Transportation at Trinity College Brian Caulfield said that trend is “very worrying” as the country has to “hit these targets, and we’re very far behind now”.
”EVs are most probably the most impactful part of the Climate Action Plan when it comes to transport. 58% of the emissions that we’re going to take out of the transport sector are to come from improving our vehicles, that’s not only private electric vehicles, it’s also buses and heavy goods vehicles,” he said. …

The most economic-minded car buyers in Ireland go for diesels, still. The dealers and the pundits can blame “lack of charging infrastructure” all they want, but the public does not want those unreliable short-range firetraps.
We can make up for the loss by banning all private jets... the ‘elites’ would love that. /s

If the people don’t buy what the government commands them to, then the government doesn’t get their kickback and graft payments.

It reminds me of the joke about the dog food company that introduced a new product that, in spite of a strong marketing campaign, failed. They tried other strategies that still failed. Finally, an employee offered his opinion: “Maybe the dogs don’t like it.”
If the government mandated the dog food, they would make the dogs eat it whether they liked it or not. When they get hungry enough, they will eat it.
People are wishing up to the scam that the current EVs are, long charging time vs mileage, no resale worth after so many recharging cycles and the combustibility factor.
These make the average consumer wince at putting down hard to earn money for a rich man’s golf cart.
Yup, gravy train is slowing down.
A good government will listen to citizen complaints, and make adjustments.
A bad government will ignore citizen complaints, and turn up the pressure.
I’m guessing that Ireland will go the second route. And so will we if the Democrats cheat their way to a win this November.

People all over the world are catching on to the scam of EV’s.
Communist “Red” China is not alarmed. All of their Electric Vehicles are produced and sold at a loss.
Because Communist China funds “global warming” political-and-social agitprop and EV production in order to cause the collapse of (from its perspective) foreign economic and industrial “might.”
And whether it’s an EV or ICE auto, they are so packed with electronics, sensors and cameras, repairing them can be a dealership-only operation and very expensive.
In fact, cars in a relatively minor accident can be rated as “totaled” even though they would otherwise be driveable but the electronics/safety features are too damaged to fix or replace.
For these reasons - and the increase in uninsured drivers - my insurance on my 5-yr old Sante Fe increased 25% this year. Outrageous.

I really dislike seeing BYD dealers in Ireland. I sometimes watch dashcam videos on Youtube and I shake my head whenever I see one.
