To Save Conservatism From Itself, I Am Voting for Harris

I believe life begins at conception. If I lived in Florida, I would support the state’s heartbeat bill and vote against the referendum seeking to liberalize Florida’s abortion laws. I supported the Dobbs decision and I support well-drafted abortion restrictions at the state and federal levels. I was a pro-life lawyer who worked for pro-life legal organizations. While I want prospective parents to be able to use I.V.F. to build their families, I do not believe that unused embryos should simply be discarded — thrown away as no longer useful.
But I’m going to vote for Kamala Harris in 2024 and — ironically enough — I’m doing it in part to try to save conservatism.
Since the day Donald Trump came down
that escalator in 2015, the MAGA movement has been engaged in a long-running, slow-rolling ideological and characterological transformation of the Republican Party. At each step, it has pushed Republicans further and further away from Reaganite conservatism. It has divorced Republican voters from any major consideration of character in leadership and all the while it has labeled people who resisted the change as “traitors.”
What allegiance do you owe a party, a movement or a politician when it or they fundamentally change their ideology and ethos?
Let’s take an assertion that should be uncontroversial, especially to a party that often envisions itself as a home for people of faith: Lying is wrong. I’m not naïve; I know that politicians have had poor reputations for honesty since Athens. But I have never seen a human being lie with the
intensity and sheer volume of Donald Trump.

There was a cadre here in the days of W who expressed similar positions. Better the Dems won, they said, than support non-conservative positions. The difference is Trump is NOT a RINO at all.

Definitely not! There were in 2016 good Christians who were concerned about his lifestyle, but that’s avoiding my point, or perhaps reinforcing it. On the one hand (2016) you had a bit of a playboy, not staunchly on the side of all social conservatism; and on the other, oh wait, a whole career of grift, running interference and maybe murder for her husband’s sluttery, butcher of Benghazi, the list goes on. How was this even a question for anyone? And yet I heard from people’s faces, live, that they couldn’t vote for Trump because of his past — and it’s not as if people could say they don’t know what a non-vote means.
In 2008, when many stayed home rather than support one not to be named, we got Obama. Nobody can honestly say that turned out well. Not just the one guy but his whole entourage of communists that plagues us to this day, the weaponization of the government that may never be undone in our lifetimes, the wanton destruction of our currency, and so many other evils.
But there are a lot of professional politicians and media people who made a lot of money off us in the process. Books were sold. Subscriptions made. Shirts and DVDs and product, speaking engagements, radio shows and TV spots. Very profitable.

This is the kind of idiocy you can’t even argue with. Their stupidity is so evident there isn’t much point of even trying.

After Elon I noticed what they mostly do is isolate your post so few can read it. IE: massive shadow ban. Though not completely banned. Just enough for a few to read it.
I use nitter to check how banned it is
