I will admit to being clueless about programing at that level, my teenage adventures with BASIC notwithstanding, but can’t Boeing send them the program? Granted it would probably take a while but not eight months.
Butch and Sunni picked the wrong company to fly with.
WE NEED ELON to rescue them!
Can he do it?
Prayers UP!!
“can’t Boeing send them the program?”
The concept of uploading data is too white for Boeing.
Lol.
WE NEED ELON to rescue them!
Can he do it?
Prayers UP!!
Do they have enough food on board to make it six months?
Uploading is racist.
I hate to ask but what are they eating/drinking?
Because the program likely hasn’t been written. As in, there is no program.
They are going to do the space equivalent of getting it rolling and then jumping out the open door.
I don’t disagree, but our points don’t contradict each other.
Yep. We need Elon to come to the rescue. Only he can do it (if it can be done).
Or as Boeing management said to the astronauts:
“You f’d up, you trusted us.”
Wow...this is not a pleasant message for them or their families. Prayer up!! :(

Indeed it is not pleasant. IMHO, the reason for it is to SAVE FACE FOR NASA AND BOEING over the poor job Boeing has done in designing and building their Starliner space capsule. Again IMHO, they really should swallow their pride and ask Elon Musk’s SpaceX for assistance.
Not really. The Russians go back and forth on a regular basis. In fact, for several years, they were the only way to get our crews back and forth.
They don't seem to have a problem. In other words, that developing country ruled by a tyrant/dictator does it -- but not us.
Somebody drop an email to Putin and see if they can help out again. I'm sure that will go well.
From what I have read, the software that would allow the ship to operate autonomously, was not uploaded. In an earlier mission, the ship was operated unmanned and controlled from the ground. The biggest problem they have right now is there must be a crew inside to undock. The strainer is taking up a critical docking port. Until the Starliner is removed from the dock, another “rescue” ship cannot dock. A possible remedy is for Boeing to up load the autonomous software so the ship can be removed from the docking ring. But it’s unknown if it can be done or how long it will take. Perhaps someone in a pressure suit can undock the Starliner then return to the ISS via space walk. It’s a dangerous problem.
NASA is run at present by Bill Nelson, a former senator and Florida state politician with an undistinguished career. As always, an organization takes on the characteristics of who is in charge. Nelson is a shallow and preening type, not in the least like the tough, driven men of old NASA who made the US the leader in space and took the US to the Moon.
Bill Nelson will be 80 years old in September.
NASA leadership should be young and energetic with a focus on the future.
Nelson’s appointment was a bad joke.
I remember that. He had much trouble controlling an incredibly fast spin of his body and barely survived.
